Backbone network transformation

Consumer traffic increasingly consists of video on demand, walled garden programming,
and over the top and user-generated content. As an example, Ovum's mobile broadband
traffic forecast predicts explosive growth through 2015. Unfortunately, our research also
predicts that this growth will not be matched by equivalent increases in revenue, said Ron
Kline, Principal Analyst, Network Infrastructure at Ovum. The 1870 TTS is an integral part
of Alcatel-Lucents converged backbone transformation (CBT) solution. CBT leverages the
companys optical and IP assets to provide needed network scalability while supporting
dynamic service creation and delivery helping operators cope with the mismatch between
traffic and revenue.
The challenge

expectations of rapid access to IP-based services
