intransitive verbs do not. Transitive (T), intransitive (I), semitransitive (S), and reversed (R) verbs each occur in
characteristic sentence types. The first nominal is always the
subject, the others are objects (exception: R-verbs reversed).

1.22. Reverse-impersonal (R) verbs (athaw-, awad-, bhet-, dis-,

chorun jane to steal away, etc; compare next sect.

4. Nominals. A nominal (see sentence formulas in sect. 1)
consists of either a noun (4.1), a pronoun (4.2), or an adjectival
(4.3) plus a noun.
4.1. Nouns. Most nouns occur in a straight singular form, a
straight plural form, and an oblique form (the formative form,
which occurs before postpositions, and the various suffixes:
agent -ne, object -la, and possessive -che). Nouns referring to a
male person or creature are masculine (M), and to a female
person or creature are feminine (F). Unfortunately, nouns
referring to sexless objects may be of any grammatical gender;
but if the grammatical gender isnt known, one may treat
sexless objects as if neuter (N) without creating confusion.
Certain words are only used in plural (e.g., lok & wadil);
certain words are only used in singular (e.g., pani & laksh). An
adjective may be used as a noun (eg, pratyekane by everyone).
Vocative: a special form for addressing someone. The vocative
singular is the bare oblique, and the plural uses ending -no
attached to the oblique (examples: dewte, surekha, hridayeshwari, gadyno, striyno, sundar ramnno). Another form of
vocative employs the particle suffix -ho (Mitraho! Oh friends!).
Names & titles (eg, raja, buwa, etc) do not use the vocative.

exceptions. Note morphonemic rules exemplified below for
convenience (asterisks); these rules apply to all parts of speech
