Additional Specifications and Standards

a. The Additive/Stabilizer used with cement shall be tested with the soil along the project road,
which has to be stabilized. The E-Modulus values thus obtained shall be used for calculation
of Stresses and Strains in the Pavement.
b. Such an additive shall be used which gives the Maximum values in laboratory tests done
with material to be used for the project and thus results in the most optimum amount of the
additive and cement being used, and also results in the most optimum thickness of the
stabilized layer.
The Properties of such materials shall be as per IRC: 37-2012.
c. In-Situ soil should be used for construction of the pavement.
d. The soil stabilizing company should be prepared to carry out the FALLING WEIGHT DEFLECTO
METER TEST to be performed as per the IRC: SP- 115, as a final quality test to check the
strength and remaining life on completion of the road.
e. The objective of the Soil Stabilization Techniques is to use the in-situ and/or locally available
materials, and the stabilizers which eliminates the use of outside/borrow materials like
aggregates etc..
f.

The stabilizer shall be manufactured by an ISO certified manufacture. Documentation shall

be produced for the same.

g. In case the concessionaire intends to use any alternative material, technology / method.
Whether patented or otherwise, that is not specifically covered in the Indian or International
Standards as listed above, but the use of which has been permitted on similar projects
(Similar in category of road, traffic, climatic conditions) as the Project Highway, he would be
permitted its use on certification by the owners of such similar projects regarding the
continued successful performance of such material, technologies, methods, producers or
process for at least 10 years of the service life of the project. Such a certification shall be
supported with details of critical performance parameters.
h. The Additive/Material shall be duly approved and accredited by the IRC - Committee for
Accreditation of New Materials and Techniques
i.

The Additive/Material shall be included in the list of the of the MORT&H notification
RW/NH-37011/39/2015-S&R(R) ,Date : 12.10.2015

The construction of roads with innovative materials by addition of stabilizers with cement shall be as
per IRC: SP-89-2010. All the material properties and strength parameters to be achieved as per the
requirement of IRC: SP-89-2010 and IRC:37-2012.
It is very important that the each of the sub layers of the wall fits well with the foundation layer
below. This burning layer will provide the necessary cohesion.
Rehabilitation and Up-gradation of Dhindi Digamarru section from Km 126/510 to Km 135/740
of NH-214 (New NH-216) and Digamarru Losari section from Km 0/000 to Km 34/230 of NH-214A
( New NH- 216) to two lane with paved shoulder in the state of Andhra Pradesh under NHDP-IV

Before application of the burning layer, the surface of the stabilized layer should be cleaned and any
loose material should be removed from it.

Construction Methodology:
The construction methodology as defined below;
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)

Spreading of cement additive by motor-grader

Spreading of the cement via cement spreader
Mixing by mechanical mixer up to a depth of 200mm with water spreading mechanism.
Compaction by vibratory /static roller
Curing every 2 to 4 hours for 48 to 72 hours following which road will be functional for
normal use.
