The University of the Philippines Society of Human

Settlements Planners is the official academic
organization of the Department of Community and
Environmental Resource Planning, College of Human
Ecology. Since its establishment in 2007, it continues to
promote excellence in human settlements through
leadership, academic excellence and unity among its
members. The organization adheres to the five ekistic
elements of human settlements (human, nature, society,
shells and networks) for the advancement of human
settlements planning as a discipline. This student-led
organization aims to promote sustainable human
settlements for all. With this, UP HSP SOC is active in
spearheading events, initiatives and actions that help in
promoting sustainability and balance among ekistic
elements, which are all important in nation building.
To extend our objective in creating awareness among the
students regarding societal environment and social issues,
the UP HSP Society will screen MaRosa film on 27th and
28th of September, 7pm, at DL Umali Hall. Director
Brillante Mendoza is also expected to come to one of the
screening dates. This film will showcase the societal
realities faced by many poor Filipinos against drug
prevalence and corruption. With this, the film showing will
not only open the mind and heart of the students on the
harrowing situation of poor Filipinos in Manila, but also
