Presentation

The Workshop Brazilian Music Games for Teachers offers a practical way
games, jokes and songs of Brazilian folkloric universe. It is intended to provide tools
for the musical awareness of children and young people in various contexts. The
course introduces music lovers in a repertoire of rhythms, songs, and games
researched popular culture of Brazil. Proposes to participants ways to work with
music in the classroom, through various activities: hand games, manipulation of
musical instruments, sound objects, body percusion games, Brazilian traditional
plays, among others.
The workshop has been divulged and shared for the last 2 years in
many cities in Brazil. In January of 2016 it has been successful introduced to Italian
educators in the cities of Dolo, Mira and Mestre (Veneto, Italy).

Targeted professionals:
- Educationalists;
- Music and Dance teachers as well as its students;
- Physical expression researchers and professionals ;

Main Goal
- Its goal is to propose to the participants ways of utilization of Brazilian music
through a variation of activities: body percussion, manipulation of musical
instruments, rhythmic games and so on as dynamic tool for an approach in
musical education and even other areas of the same context.

Specific objectives
- Present activities based in traditional Brazilian rhythm and beats;
- Using our body as a musical instrument, more precisely percussion;
- Exchange of experience between educators of this area;
- Work the word, rimes, sounds and short poems exploring variations rhythmically ;
- Movement through rhythm;
- Musical improvisation and composition activities;

Methodology
Our dynamic is based on activities which the participants are
encouraged to interact as part of the process of musical awareness and from
that, to reflect on how bring such knowledge to their own work.
The referential educative is based on active approach within the musical
education proposed and developed by Masters as Carl Orff (Orff-Schulwerk),
Dalcroze,Swanwick and the studies in Body Music developed by the Group
Barbatuques (Brazil).
To the participants will be given material of study as musical score
sheets, and the activities description.

Brazilian music in the classroom


The Brazilian folk culture is one of the differentials of this workshop. The
rhythmic plurality of our presented repertory stands out passing through
tendencies such Baio, Samba, Maracatu, Moambique, Batuque, just to
illustrate some of these.
This diversity is a result of an extensive research of Thiago Di Luca within
the folklore and popular Brazilian music working along ten years as a teacher,
composer and performer.

Suggested schedule
- Classes of minimum 3 hours with possibility of extended period to even 6 or
8 hours.

About Thiago Di Luca


Thiago Di Luca is a composer and music educator, graduated in music at
University Center IPA (2009, Porto Alegre, RS) and post-graduate course in
Music, Education and Expression of FEEVALE (2011, Novo Hamburgo, RS). It
has extensive experience in music education with students of basic
education, having served from kindergarten until high school.

It is a researcher and multiplier of the Body Music or Percussion Body


language and participated in courses and workshops with artists like Keith
Terry (Slammin Group, USA), Leela Petronio (former member of Stomp
Group), Jep Melendez (Spain), Tupac Mantilla (Group Tekeye, Colombia),
Stnio Mendes and Fernando Barba (Barbatuques, Brazil). Was one of the
founders and coordinators of BatuKatu, gaucho core research and
multiplication of Body Music, which has a partnership with Fernando Barba
(Barbatuques).
Has taught workshops in the area of Music, Music Education and
Percussion Body in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul state, such as Morro
Reuter, Novo Hamburgo, Good Start and Porto Alegre. Participated in the
experimental group of the teaching staff of POA Dance, maintained by the
city of Porto Alegre. In the academic field has two published articles, one in
Praksis magazine (University FEEVALE, RS) and another in the Graduate
Seminar at the University FEEVALE.

Music acts as trainer of actors, which makes use of elements from areas such as
theater, dance and music. As sound engineer, worked in great spectacles of the
gaucho theater, mostly directed by Julio Conte and Patsy Cecato. It was awarded the
Eighth POA Music Festival (2005) in Category Most Popular Music. In 2008 was the
only gaucho composer selected to perform at the Bienal do Mercosul UNE and is on
the staff of composers of the new CD of the state Singer Glau Barros, produced by
composer Gelson Oliveira, to be released soon. In 2012 he created the soundtrack for
the children's show "Pia Farrukhabad" (Bob Bahlis direction), based on the work of
the renownedwriter gaucho Carlos Urbim.
In 2013, he served as music educator of the nationwide project "Recycling is
Show", coordinated by Flvia Maia (Barbatuques Group) that links music education
with the use of musical instruments made from recycled or reused material. In 2014,
participated in the VII International Orff Schulwerk course at the Federal University of
Caxias do Sul, Brazil, with educators Verena Maschat, Pollo Valejo and Stephen
Marques.
In 2014 he launched the children's musical "Flax Cantos, wool - sung poems Dilan
Camargo, based on the work of the renowned, award-winning children's writer Dilan
Camargo, which acts as a performer, composer andeducational director.
In 2015 he initiated the International Orff Schulwerk certification program, level
1, San FranciscoInternational Orff Course, SanFrancisco, CA,USA.
In 2015 it was nominated for the Theatre Prize Revelation promoted by the
Coordination for the Performing Arts in the city of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, categories
Best Play, Best Director and People's Jury Prize, with musical show Cantos linen, wool.
In 2015 it won the Azoreans Dance Award, Best Original Score category,
sponsored by the coordination of the Municipality of Porto Alegre Dance, as coauthor of the soundtrack of contemporary dance "Normtico", along with the My
House Group.
He is currently a professor of the College Music Anchieta, Porto Alegre. Integra the
staff of professors of ISEI extension courses (Institute of Ivoti of Education) and
teaches courses of Musical Education, Music and Movement and making musical
instruments with alternative materials for various audiences.
