can jot down your thoughts here, and then write your final answers on the Teachers
Values and Philosophy Matrix on the preceding page.
Teacher 1
Teacher 1 is more focus on progressivism and perennials approach. He is more focus on
developing student to make them ready for the adversities of the future.
Teacher 2
Teacher 2 varies with different philosophy. He uses perennials, existentialists, and
essentials approach.

Your Reflections
1. Which views do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain
I agree with all the views of the teachers. They may have different point of
view but I believe all the things theyve said was out of their vast experiences and
deep passion towards teaching. We can never really dictate anyone regarding their
philosophies/views. All their views is essential and therefore admirable. Specifically I
agree with making the students involve in the discussion, enhancing the affective
domain of the students, make them critical thinkers, life-long learners and promoting
cooperation within the class.
2. This time, its your turn to answer the three sentence completion items.
a. My goal/s for my pupils/students is/are
Inspire them to love math in the simplest ways. I will make them understand
that math is not just for mathematically gifted individuals. It is a universal
skill that is badly needed to any profession. It is a skill that can be mastered
by anyone. It is a skill that makes you solve problems. I will make them
understand that there may be no algebra in the real life but there are real
problems in real life. The mere fact that they can solve problems in algebra
is a guarantee (though not 100 percent) that they can solve any problems
theyll encounter in real life.
b. What I really want to teach to my pupils/students is/are
I want to teach them to be problems solvers and critical thinkers in real
life. Math is a discipline that is hiding beneath complexity, especially for

not math gifted students. I want them to learn to the importance of math in
relation to their lives.
c. I will teach my pupils/students by
Making them answer questions and be involved. Answer questions that will
test, not just their knowledge, but also their wisdom. Making them involve
in the process for them to feel what they are up to.
3. What philosophy do you adhere to? Why?
I believe it is progressivism. I think I am more concern on the development
of the skills of my students that will help them eventually in the future. Change is
inevitable. Students have their individual plans for their future. So, I believe
teacher should not impose too much in the students minds. They are free
individuals who are free to think. Teachers are mere instrument to make them
develop their philosophy, knowledge and skills for their future.

4. A mission statement is clear and concise expression of your beliefs, values and
philosophy. Write your own mission statement here, but you are free to make your
own format. Just K.I.S.S. it. Keep it Short and Simple, so that you can remember
it by heart. Most importantly, that you will live by it.
