CHAPTER NO. 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction to the Study:
Green Supply chain management describes to the path in which development of system
include manufacturing, inventory network, distribution of end product with respect of
environmental issues. (Green, K., B. Morton, and S. New. 1998) [01].
In the natural production neatwork governing companies, they focus on the buying
capacitys inclusion in exercises that incorporate lessening, reusing, reuse and the substitution
of materials. (Narasimhan, R., and J.R. Carter. 1998) [02]
The focus on observing and enhancing environmental friendly activities with respect to
supply chain (from raw material to finish goods) in the industry. ( Godfrey, R. 1998) [03]
"Coordinating natural inference in the industry practice, including item plan, material
resourcing and determination, fabricating forms, conveyance of the last item to the purchaser
and also end-of-life administration of the item after its life cycle" (Srivastava S.K.2007 )[04].
1.2 Problem Statement:
In industry the misunderstanding has prevailed that if, supply chain management is developed
on environmental factor then cost of product will be increased and profit will be decreased
due to decreasing of demands. It is assumed that this is wrong concept and there is no such
link between supply chain & environmental factors.

1.3 Questions for Research:

Subject research is based on following research questions:
1. Does the impact of internal practice on output supply chain in GSCM.
2. Does the impact of external practice on output supply chain in GSCM.
3. Does the impact of eco design practice on output supply chain in GSCM.

1.4 Research Objective:

Research objectives are as follows:
1. To check the impact of internal practice on output supply chain in GSCM.
2. To check the impact of external practice on output supply chain in GSCM.
3. To check the impact of eco design practice on output supply chain in GSCM.
1.5 Research Gap:
In Pakistan research on Green Supply Chain Management is very little and there is a need
to carry out the research on subject topic. Globally Green Supply Chain is very crucial topic
and many counties researchers have performed research.
1.6 Signification of Research:
Literature review describe that environmental management is importance and fruitful for
environmental performance and also improve the industrial performance.
Awareness about environmental issue will be address in supply chain management. In general
consumer alert for environmental issue and ultimately industries are more focus on green
supply chain management

CHAPTER NO. 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Theory of Study:
2.1.1
In the article authors describe the four main functions of Green Supply Chain Management:
Purchasing, Production, Distribution & Logistics and reverse Logistics. And also define the
purchasing related to green supply chain, in which development of pre-qualification criteria for
vendor, technical evaluation criteria, compliance in accordance to friendly environment material.
Logistics is the main part of Supply Chain and also transportation is main cause of air pollution and
road conjunction; therefore select the transport mode and rote with the factor of environment.
Total Quality Environmental Management (TQEM) should by apply on production, by
implementation of TQEM employee can empowered and prose will improve and also improve the
environmental performance of internal supply chain. In distribution solve the customers issues and
out bond logistic problem. ( L. K. Toke, R. C. Gupta & Milind Dandekar, 2010) [05]
2.1.2
In this article author suggest that recycling material should be procured. Many international
organizations prepared and promote the green material / goods and services. Green manufacturing can
save the money by using recycling material, use wind and solar energy which also environment
friendly. Lean manufacturing techniques should be adopt, cost can be reduce by just in time, eliminate
the product which are harms for environments. In marketing keep the consumer rights first, not
marketing the products which are harm for society of environments. (Nimawat Dheeraj1 and Namdev
Vishal2, 2012) [06]
2.1.3

Author has described the area of GSCM which is based on environmental issues by
comparing past practice and current practice of adopting of environmental factors. Author
developed the relation between supply chain management and environmental protection. He
suggest that product design on environmental safety and replace the hazardous material and
change the process which are create the problems in environment and also society. (S. H.
Tang, N. Zulkifli, and M. K. A., 2013) [07]
2.1.4
Literature describes the factors that involve the green supply chain management and discuss
the issue of environmental factor in industrial practice. Main focus on material supply which

is initial stage of supply chain management. That research was conduct on Malaysian
manufacturing industries. Author emphasizes to use biomass boilers and solar energy in
manifesting industries. Literature addresses the customers requirement and also customers
complain handling. Norlinda Mohd Rozar, Wan Hasrulnizzam Wan Mahmood, Abdullah
Ibrahim, and Muhammad Ashlyzan Razik , 2012 [08]
2.1.5
Literature describe the area of supply chain in manufacturing industries of India, which are
the crucial developing area, and by which green supply chain can be improve. Manufacturing
industries can be save cost and minimized the environmental hazards by using recycle raw
material in industries (Nimawat Dheeraj1 and Namdev Vishal2,Research, 2012) [09]
2.1.6
Article describe that environmental effect in industries can control by green supply chain
management, and also clear the misunderstanding that if green supply chain management
practice adopt in industries than cost will be high and quality will suffer and also efficiency.
Green supply chain not only reduced the impact of environmental factor and also leads the
profit (Samir K. Srivastava, 2007) [10]
2.2 Variables
Four variables used in this thesis. Three variables are independent and one of them is
dependent variable.
Independent Variables:
i.
ii.
iii.

Internal practices
External Practices
Eco Design Practices

Dependent Variable:
i.

Supply Output.

2.4 Hypotheses development:

Normally Supply chain consists of purchasing of raw material, manufacturing goods and
distributes and ensures availability of product for end customers. With the relation of supply
chain management we have developed three hypotheses for this study. Which are describing
the relationship between independent variables and dependant variable.
Hypothesis 1: There is optimistically linked between internal practice of GSCM and output
supply chain.
Hypothesis 2: There is optimistically linked between external practice of GSCM and output
supply chain.
Hypothesis 3: There is optimistically linked between eco design practice of GSCM and
output supply chain.

METHODOLOGIES
3.1 Research Philosophy
This study will be based on Positivism
iii.2

Research Approach:

The deductive approach will used in this research for getting result
iii.3
Research Design :
Green supply chain management is gaining importance and achieving competitive advantages
because customers are becoming more aware about the environment and environmental is
critical issue nowadays. In this study we will measure the relationship between supply output
(cost, demand, profit and lead time) and green supply chain management.
Questionnaire will be adopted from The Impact of Green Supply Chain Practices on Supply
Chain Performance By Jin Sung Rha, for conducting survey and carries out the survey for
data analyses.
Survey will be conduct from consumers, students and industry officials and check the impact
of green supply chain management on profit, cost, lead time and demand.
This research will take three months from initial stage, in which we will take one month for
literature review, one week for questionnaire, one month for data collection and on week for
data compile and one weeks for data analysis and result obtaining and one weeks for
conclusions.
iii.4

Population:

We will select the population for this research is student, professionals, consumers and
general public because we can get an opinion of consumer they prefer the green supply chain
management and accept the impact of green supply chain on product.

iii.5

Sample and Sampling Techniques :

This research will be based on primary data and samples will be collected from student,
professionals and general public. Convenient sampling techniques will be used in this study.
3.6 Instrument:
The survey data will be analysis on statistical software SPSS version 20.00 for getting
appropriate results and conclusions.
3.7 Data Analysis
In this study we will use destructive analysis, multiple leaner regression, correlation for
testing of hypotheses and conclusion results on it.
