On-Line Partial Discharge

Continuous monitoring System
Partial Discharges:PD?
Partial discharge is defined as an electrical spark discharge that bridges a
portion of the insulation between energized conductors in a dielectric. It need
not occur at either of the conduction bodies, but anywhere in between where
the electric field strength exceeds the breakdown strength of that portion of the
dielectric material. This occurrence is due to imperfections, voids, contaminants,
cracks and other irregularities in the dielectric.

Type of Partial Discharge.

Internal Discharge : Inner part of Mold (TR. CT, PT) Inner part of Cable
connection material, Interfacial short circuit of Mold
Surface Discharge : Bus holding insulator surface. Arrester, SA insulator
surface. Molded switchgear surface. Cable connection
material Skirt surface.
Corona Discharge : Bus, Cable connection part, Mold transformer tap, DS,
COS etc. Switch contact part

TM)
Product brief(PowerPDTM)

PowerPDTM detects and analyze the generation of PD (Partial Discharge),

on-line, from the power facility and provides monitoring in real-time. It saves
and manages the measured data from PD generation for over 30 years. It is a
diagnostic monitoring system that analyzes the PD signal and its trend to give
user the warning for a preventive measure and alarm the user when PD
progression is at the dangerous level.

Analysis & Monitoring of PD

The pulse data from each sensor can be selected by the date or time and displayed in various
different graph form. User can see the PD progression to determine the condition of transformer (or
GIS) for a preventive measure.
Pulse-Time Graph
: Analyze PD data in time domain
- Shows the PD pulse data in pps for the period user sets.
- Time domain is set by the user by the time or date.
- The pulse data for each sensor can be displayed separately or simultaneously.
- Shows the PD trend as time passes, and gives warning and alarm when PD increases
rapidly in continuous manner.
Pulse-Phase Graph
: Analyze the PD data in phase of AC one cycle
- Shows the PD pulse data in magnitude (User selects the period)
- Phase domain unit: 1 r
- Pulse data for each sensor can be shown separately or simultaneously
- When PD pattern is compared to the phase of AC power, PD can be determined.
