JOURNAL ENTRY 1: Why do I want to become a teacher?

Teaching profession was not my first choice as the majorities of my family members are
from teaching profession. Another reason I did not want to be a teacher was the rate of
the salary is not as high as other profession. After few years being a student teacher, I
could see the importance of becoming a teacher, as it is one of the ways to get closer to
the community and to build our society. Based on teaching experiences in Australia and
throughout the teaching trainee courses, I slowly build the passion to be in the teaching
profession.
Everything is in the teachers hand; as it depends on how they conduct their lesson, to
achieve certain standard or not. In fact, teaching is a crucial job as the client is the
children who will be our next generation. Therefore, it is teachers responsibility, and
need to take it seriously as teaching is not only to teach the subjects, but also to mould
them to be a potential individual and well-developed spiritually, physically and
emotionally.
Even though our society still look down on the teaching profession, I strongly believe
that their perspective will change one day, if all teachers think big and start to act
professionally even in a small way. For instance, I really want the society to have a
same view on teaching profession with other profession like doctors, lawyers, and
engineers. In order to transform their view, teachers need to have the passion in
teaching to produce a high quality product which is the students achievement as well as
their personality as individual, to prove that teaching profession is like a human
engineer and a doctor to each student.
Thus, as a baby step in getting the society views the teaching profession at the same
level as other profession, I would like to try adapting what I have learnt in Australia in my
classroom during teaching and learning session in order to help my students develop
their language proficiency in English, and instill the ethics and moral value in each of my
student. However, if I am going to teach other subject, I still can apply the classroom
management on how to manage my students to develop themselves to be an ideal and
excellent student.

Overall, I have my own believe that great teachers inspire. Hence, I need to critically
reflect on my teaching and learning session to improve my teaching strategies and
develop myself to be a professional teacher. Indeed, I believe that being a teacher is not
as easy as teachers are one of the parties who first involve in building and shaping our
society and our country in future.
