MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INCLUSION IN THE LISTS
OF APPROVED CONTRACTORS
CATEGORY 4: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND PLANT
INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE
SECTION A: MAJOR INSTALLATION
1. INTRODUCTION
In order to be considered for inclusion in the List of Approved Contractors
for the above type of works the Contractor shall meet the following
minimum requirements. Failure to meet any of these requirements shall be
cause for rejection of the contractors application for inclusion on the above
Category.

2. PRIOR EXPERIENCE
The Contractor must be experienced in all operations involved in the
installation of mechanical works and shall be fully conversant with
associated supporting trades that may accompany the installation of the
works. The Contractor shall provide documentary evidence that he has
carried out at least two projects either in the oil field or in petrochemical
environments and/or power stations during the last ten years similar in all
aspects to the following: 2.1

Installation of engines, turbines, pumps generators, compressors


and electric motors, as original equipment or replacement units,
of greater than 500 H.P.
Installation of pressure-vessels, and associated process plant.
Structural steel erection and associated civil building works.
Fabrication and installation of pipework associated with 2.1 and
2.2.
Heavy-duty close tolerance reinforced concrete foundation.
Associated painting, coating and wrapping.
Testing and commissioning of the foregoing installations.

CATEGORY 4A
3. PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL STAFF
The Contractor must have in his employ and on his sponsorship a
minimum number of personnel as shown below and must provide details of
their qualification and experience. They should be well conversant with the
appropriate Standards, Code of Practice, Area Classification and Fire and
Safety Regulations in the oil field. They will be called for interview and
trade test as appropriate.

Must hold a B.Sc. degree or equivalent


with good command in the English
language both spoken and written with
at least 8 years experience in the above
aspects of the works, capable of
organizing, planning, scheduling and
supervising similar work.
Civil Engineer

including work on heavy duty close
tolerance

foundations.
Engineer
or Must have good knowledge and
supervisor

electrical

instrumentation works.
Foreman
Must have good command in the
English language both spoken and
written with at least 10 years experience
in similar work capable of directing and
carrying out the above work which will
include alignment to fine tolerances
shafts and couplings of engines,
turbines, compressors, electric motor,
gear boxes, pump and other driving and
driven machinery.
Tradesmen of Must have suitable experience for this
different
type of work

4. PREMISES AND WORKSHOP FACILITIES
The Contractor must maintain workshop, office premises and organization
appropriate to the type and volume of work for which he is applying. His
office must be staffed and equipped with word processing, copying, drafting
and communication (telephone and fax) equipment. His workshop and site
equipment should include, but not limited to: -

Concrete mixer and vibrator
Cold cutting machine
Appropriate pulling, lifting and jacking equipment
Cutting and beveling gear
300 C.F.M. minimum air compressors 100 Psi
Test pump, 2500 Psi
Scaffolding
Miscellaneous hand tools and any other tools and
equipment of sufficient quantities necessary for such type
of work.

All lifting equipment has a valid certification from a


recognized inspection company and /or authority.

5. VEHICLES AND TRANSPORT
The Contractor must have a minimum of: NUMBER TOOL, PLANT AND EQUIPMENT FOR WORKSHOP AND

Water Tanker 3000 Gallons (minimum)
Dump Truck 12 CM.

In addition, the Contractor must be able to provide adequate


transportation to and from site for all involved personnel.
