1 Wall Plastering
The purpose of the plastering was to give good appearance and protection the wall.
The main principal objective of the plastering are,

To provide a even, smooth finish surface to the work improve appearance

To cover defective workmanship

To cover up bad porous materials

To provide suitable surface for colour wash

To provide to the brick work surface from the weathering effect water air ect

For the wall plastering normally we used Cement:Lime:Sand ratio 1:1:5 ,Also we used FEB MIX
Chemical instead of the lime .There was two types of plasters use in MSJ site
1. Fine or Smooth finish plaster
2. Rough finish plaster
Fine finish plaster was mostly done for internal walls and rough finish plaster was done for
external walls. before starting the plaster in internal wall chicken mesh was apply to the wall
corners which are expose to the gable walls otherwise it was a precaution to crack may occur due
to shrinkage of bricks
After placing the mortar pots first we start the external plaster thickness of the external
plaster 15mm mortar was spread all over the wall and shape the surface well then rough surface
was maintained brushing the wall surface using the piece of wet sponge, while spring water to
the wall external plaster was done up on the DPC level after that plinth plaster was done

Tools used for plastering

Gauging trowel

Straight edge

Brush

Plumb mob

Finishing trowel

Try square

8.2 CHEMICAL USED FOR PLASTERING

FEB MIX
Feb mix is liquid air entertaining mortar plaster, design to enhance workability and freeze thaw
resistance of mortar. Feb mix is recommended for use with cement sand mortar both for brick or
block lying and for plastering to achieve superior quality masonry work and renderings.

Advantages of Feb mix

Ultra stability of air bubble give prolonged resistance to freeze thaw

Uniform air entrainment in the structure imparts homogeneity of the mortar

matrix

Formulation ensure effectiveness with most type of Portland cement and rough
sand

Micro air bubble minimize tendency to bleed and segregate

Increase the cohesion of mortar reduce wastage specially during over hand or
vertically plastering

Imparts a creamy consistency to mortar that help in easier and faster mortar speed

Increases coverage of mortar by upto10%.

Pre mix Feb mix with the gauging water at the required dosage or add directly in to the
mix along the water control water addition carefully as admixture considerably reduced the water
demand for the achieving the required consistency, due to his superior plastering effect.
The recommendation dosage of Feb mix is 70ml to 140ml per 50kg of cement. Site trials
with text mixes should be conducted to determine the optimum dosage. The dosage will vary
from following factor.

Type of proportion of cement in the mix

Graduation of sand

Method of mixing

In our site we used 85 ml of Feb mix for the 50 kg of cement

BASE COMPOUND
Base compound is vinyl base ready mix high performance compound it formulated for Filling
and smoothing monolithic interior wall and ceiling. Base compound is design to provide superior
cracks resistance and durability.
It is easily applied with a steel trowel and can be standard to achieve a fine white finish
able surface. Base compound is non-asbestos formula. It provides a storage bond and low
shrinkage and can be based as skin coat as well as a deep fill compound
Preparation

Apply base compound in accordance with manufactures recommendation

Always maintain temperatures at minimum 13 0C

Provide adequate ventilation to carry off excess moisture

Surface should be dry and free from dust an other contamination

Mix content thoroughly prior to use

To adjust the viscosity clean water may be added

Drying time

- Approximately 2.5 hours at 25 0C

Dry density

- Approximately 1.6 g/l

Tools

- 5,8,10,or 12 wide application knives.

Coverage

- Approximately 75 m2 per 28 kg

Ingredients

- Limestone
Dolomites
Water

Vinyl acetate polymer

Ethylene vinyl acetate polymer
Attapulgite

JOINT COMPOUND
Joint Compound is a ready mixed vinyl formulation for embedding sheet rock ,joint tape and
filing and finishing coats in interior block walls
Preparation

Keep joint compound at room temperature for 24 hours

Skim concrete lightly with out adding water

Using directly from container

Application

Apply over thoroughly dry surface only

Allow each coat to dry before applying another coat

Maintain minimum air ,Joint component and surface temperature of 55 0F with working
area until joint are completely dry

Sanding

Avoid sanding if possible ,it sanding is necessary wet sand is using sponge to eliminate
dust and scuffing of face paper

Rub joint gently using a sweeping motion to remove high spots with as few stroke as
possible

If dry sanding, wrap 120 grit sand paper of finer avoid surfing panel paper
