and 1% other). Students are admitted to Brother Rice High
School according to the results of a national competitive
examination, their grade school records, and recommendations
from their grammar school teachers.

Mission Statement
We, the family of Brother Rice High School, are a diverse,
Catholic Christian community, committed to preparing young
men for college and for the process of life-long learning. We
educate young men to act manfully in Christ Jesus and to deal
wisely with their world in the tradition of the Christian Brothers
and the charism of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice.

The Edmund Rice Christian Brothers of North America,
formerly known as the Irish Christian Brothers, operate the
school, which includes 48 faculty members, both religious and lay
persons, 20 of whom have at least one Masters Degree or higher.

ACCREDITATION
Rice High School is accredited by
Brother
the State of Illinois and AdvancED. We are a
member of the College Board, the Illinois
Association of College Admission Counselors,
the National Catholic Educational
Association, and the National Association of
Secondary School Principals. Brother Rice
High School has been named one of the best
Catholic secondary schools in the nation by
the Catholic Honor Roll; this designation is
given to only 50 Catholic high schools
nationwide.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
APEX Program: Academic Pursuit of Excellence is a special program designed to guide the truly academically
gifted student to his full potential. Academically gifted students are admitted into APEX to help assure a
challenging academic environment appropriate to their talents. The class of 2016 Average APEX ACT score was
30.4.
PACC: Program for Advanced College Credit is a program offered through Loyola University (Chicago),
St. Marys University, Saint Xavier University and Moraine Valley Community College where a number of junior
and senior classes have been accredited as college level courses.
FOCUS: Program offered to students in need of more individualized strategies to improve their academic skills
and prepare for post-high school plans. Most students remain in the program for two years and, by junior year,
many students are mainstreamed into regular academic level classes. FOCUS students are not required to take
a world language.
PLTW Engineering Program: Project Lead the Way is a curriculum program nationally known for introducing
high school students to engineering. Starting sophomore year and ending with senior year, Brother Rice
students can apply to take three engineering classes that prepare them to study engineering at the college level.
Some universities offer scholarships or college credit options for the PLTW courses offered at Brother Rice.
