6.1 CE Mode Overview

6.1 CE Mode Overview


The CE mode is for the service engineers working for solving troubles at customer sites, and helps them identify which replaceable part of the printer causes of the trouble.

6.1.1 Functions of the Control Panel in the CE Mode


Start the Diag mode by using the buttons on the control panel.

[2], [4], [5], [6]:


Use these hard buttons to start the CE mode.

After entering the CE mode, use the buttons displayed on the touch panel and messages in the display for
operation.

[ ]:
Moves upward one by one. Pressing this at the top of the list will return to the bottom.
[ ]:
Moves downward one by one. Pressing this at the bottom of the list will return to the top.
[ ]:
Moves the cursor to the left by one.
[ ]:
Moves the cursor to the right by one.
[OK] button :
Press the [OK] button to confirm the selection or execute the processing.
[<--] (Back) button :
Press the [<--] (Back) button to cancel the selection or stop the processing.

Hold down the [4], [5], and [6] buttons and turn on the power of the printer.

Diag Password.

Press the [2] button twice, and then press the [5] button once.

6.1.3 Overview of the CE Mode Operation


After the CE mode is started, you can use the buttons displayed in the touch panel to operate the CE mode.
There are two types of the diagnostic procedure: Printer Diag and Fax/Scanner Diag.

Selecting the item to execute the diagnosis


Use the [ ] and [ ] buttons to select the item to execute diagnosis.

Confirming the item to execute the diagnosis


Press the [OK] button to confirm the item selected.

Executing the diagnosis for the item selected


Follow the message and keep holding down the [OK] button until the diagnosis is started.
If the diagnosis requires changing the parameter value, use the [ ] and [ ] buttons and then
press the [OK] button.

To execute the diagnosis for other items, press the [<--] (Back) button until the screen returns to the item to
evaluate.
If any error occurs while in the diagnosis or in the middle of selecting parameter values, an error message will
appear and the processing will stop.
To cancel the error message and return to the menu screen, press the [<--] (Back) button or the [OK] button.

6.1.4 How to Exit the CE Mode


You can exit the CE mode both from Printer Diag and Fax/Scanner Diag.

Return to the top level of Printer Diag or Fax/Scanner Diag, and use the [ ] or [ ] button until
the [Complete] appears, and then press the [OK] button.
(e.g.: To exit the CE mode from Printer Diag, display the message below.)

This section explains the details of the ESS Diag test results.

6.2.1 ALL Test


All Test allows you to execute a series of Flash ROM, EEPROM, DRAM, ASIC, and IOT tests in one go.
(MAC+PHY/PANEL/USB Host/RTC tests are not carried out.)

6.2.2 Flash ROM Test


Flash ROM Test calculates the checksum per Flash ROM header area and compares the result with the each
area's checksum prepared in ROM. The status will be regarded as normal when the all results coincide with
the checksums stored in ROM.

6.2.3 EEPROM Test


EEPROM Test allows you to execute read/write/verify of the test pattern (0xff, 0xaa, 0x55, 0x00) from the
head of the EEPROM for one byte in every 0 x 400.

6.2.4 DRAM Test


DRAM Test checks whether the writing of the test data, 4-byte unit (0x00000000 -> 0x55555555 ->
0xaaaaaaaa -> 0xffffffff -> 0x00000000 -> ...), in the area available for the diagnosis is possible or not.
Values will be overwritten with the original value after the test.
Area available for the diagnosis: Work areas other than the stack area and the task acquiring area.

MAC+PHY Test allows you to perform the loopback test for MAC (Media Access Control) and PHY (Physical
Layer).

6.2.7 IOT Test


IOT Test provides the communication test between the IOT. In this communication test, the IOT status register is read for checking whether the commands are exchanged normally.

6.2.8 USB Host Test


USB Host Test checks the communication between a USB Host port and the USB devices connected to the
USB Host port.
* This test menu is for obtaining the USB authentication. To use this test, you will need the devices approved
by the certification authority.

6.3.2 Digital Output


Digital Output checks whether the digital output (DO) components function properly.
You can switch each DO component to ON and check the operation separately, which helps you judge which
component functions normally.
You can operate all components at one time in the Digital Output Test. If you open the interlock while a motor
test is being executed, the operation of each component will be stopped.

NOTE
Except for 010-001, 042-001, 042-002, and 042-003, set LVPS 24V (041-001) to ON (EXEC). Otherwise,
the component does not operate.

You can print the values of the parameter of the IOT, the error count, and the life count.

When you print the parameter list, check that the Tray 1 contains A4 paper (Only A4 paper is supported). If
the parameter list is printed on the paper of other than A4, some part of the image might be lost.
The printer will display [Processing] and suspend the parameter list from printing, if the paper size other
than A4 is set as the default paper tray setting.
In this case, switch off the printer once, and on again, specify A4 for the paper tray setting, enter the CE
mode, and then print the list.
