The throne room and Queen's megaron
Lion Gate, Mycenae, 13th century b.c. Limestone approx. 2.9 m. high
The major feature of the palace was a rectangular structure called the megaron (large room in Greek).
One entered the megaron through a front porch supported by two columns and continued through an
antechamber into the throne room, in which four columns surrounded a circular hearth.
