Evidence (Candidate and Student)

All materials and supplies prepared and accessible for students
Students given responsibility for placing supplies and materials
back
Students working in cooperative groups
Considerations:
Make sure you have all students attention (they are quiet) before
giving instructionsif not, you will find yourself (as you did)
repeating them several times.
Also have students repeat/paraphrase what they are expected to
do for the learning experience to assess if they understand what
they are to do

Accurate understanding of science conceptit was clear that you
studied the science in order to design the lesson, create the
learning experiences, and explain the content as well as you did
(physical science--elements, compounds, and mixtures)

Evidence (Candidate and Student)

Students using science notebooks to record learning
Students made analogiessuggest having them share them aloud
to the entire class.
Diagnosed that you were working ahead of where you wanted to
be in the learning plan for the lesson and made the adjustment
Also realized that needed pull class together to work as a whole
group and did that as well as had students come to board to make
structures.
Considerations:
incorporate strategies for making clear transitions between
learning experiences/tasks. Be explicitlet students know clearly
what you are doing at particular points in the lesson.
Provide an example or model first what you want the students to
do.
Have students help each other/explain to each other at the table
groupsso that they are learning from each other.

Summary Statement and Areas to Concentrate on Improving:

:
Amanda, I am glad that you decided to conduct the same lesson two more times after our debriefing session and your discussion with your cooperating teacher in
order to strengthen your instruction. I am glad to hear that you incorporated the feedback and that both times the lesson was executed effectively. You were able
to reflect accurately during our debriefing session on what worked well (inquiry/hands-on science investigation, lesson designed to address new science and
engineering practicesdesigning a model, materials and supplies prepared and accessible, use of student notebooks for science, integrating literacy through
analogies as examples and where improvement was needed (more structure needed, use of attention-centered strategies, slow down execution of lesson, have
students do fewer tasks at a time, provide clearer, more concise, visual directions).
You were very comfortable with the students and they were comfortable with you and respectful of you. You appear to have a good working relationship with your
cooperating teacher. Ms. Marlow is a very effective science teacher, so learn as much as you can from her. Closely observe her and make note of as well as
incorporate some of the strategies, procedures, and routines that she uses establish a classroom learning environment that is respectful, orderly, and supports
student learning. Im looking forward to the next observation.
