Per Course Instructor Teaching Opportunities - Winter 2017

Subject to sufficient enrolment and budgetary restrictions, the Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences may appoint several Per Course Instructors to teach courses in Law and Society in the
Winter 2017 semester. Letters of application, along with curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier
and the names and contact information of three referees should be submitted to the address
provided below by Monday, October 17th. All required information must be received before
applications will be considered; applicants are responsible for ensuring that their applications
are complete.

LWSO 1000 (001) Law, Democracy and Social Justice


The Law and Society Program seeks suitably qualified applications for the position, Per Course
Instructor, LWSO 1000, Law, Democracy and Social Justice, offered on campus (St. Johns) in
the winter academic term 2017 (05 January 20 April 2017).
Timing: Monday & Wednesday @ 15:30-16:45
Law, Democracy and Social Justice examines the nature and aims of democracy and
contemporary issues related to social justice through a law and society perspective.
Required qualifications:
Masters degree in a related discipline (i.e., social sciences and humanities with a specialization
in law) or law degree; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of law and society,
democracy and social justice; and demonstrated evidence of teaching at the undergraduate
level.

LWSO 1000 (081) Law, Democracy and Social Justice


The Law and Society Program seeks suitably qualified applications for the position, Per Course
Instructor, LWSO 1000, Law, Democracy and Social Justice, offered by distance (CITL) in the
winter academic term 2017 (05 January 20 April 2017).
Law, Democracy and Social Justice examines the nature and aims of democracy and
contemporary issues related to social justice through a law and society perspective.
Required qualifications:
Masters degree in a related discipline (i.e., social sciences and humanities with a specialization
in law) or law degree; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of law and society,

democracy and social justice; demonstrated evidence of teaching at the undergraduate level;
and, recent experience teaching through distance education.

LWSO 2000 (081) Law and Society in Canada


The Law and Society Program seeks suitably qualified applications for the position, Per Course
Instructor, LWSO 2000, Law and Society in Canada, offered by distance (CITL) in the winter
academic term 2017 (05 January 20 April 2017).
Law and Society in Canada is an introduction to law in Canadian Society and the role which it
has played in societies past and present.
Required qualifications:
Masters degree in a related discipline (i.e., social sciences and humanities with a specialization
in law) or law degree; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of law and society in
Canadian legal systems; demonstrated evidence of teaching at the undergraduate level; and,
recent experience teaching through distance education.

LWSO 3400 (001) Organized Crime in Canada: National and Global Perspectives
The Law and Society Program seeks suitably qualified applications for the position, Per Course
Instructor, LWSO 3400, Law and Society in Canada, offered on campus (St. Johns) in the winter
academic term 2017 (05 January 20 April 2017).
Timing: Tuesday & Thursday @ 15:30-16:45
Organized Crime in Canada: National and Global Perspectives examines the origins, expansion,
and changing character of organized crime in Canada from the early twentieth century to the
present, as well as Canada's role in transnational organized criminal activity. Laws relating to
criminal activity, law enforcement and available tools to combat organized crime are assessed
according to the inherent problems of investigation, evidence, and litigation.
Required qualifications:
Masters degree in a related discipline (i.e., social sciences and humanities with a specialization
in law) or law degree; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of law and society in
Canadian legal systems; demonstrated evidence of teaching at the undergraduate level; and,
recent experience teaching through distance education.

LWSO 4000 (081) Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Law and Society, 4000


The Law and Society Program seeks suitably qualified applications for the position, Per Course
Instructor, Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Law and Society, offered by distance (CITL) in the
winter academic term 2017 (05 January 20 April 2017).
Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Law and Society is an appreciation and understanding of those
rules and activities termed legal which can be gained from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the different ways in which law may be
approached within the humanities and social sciences. Through readings, discussion and
research, students will gain a wider understanding of the role of law in society and of the
diverse academic approaches for understanding it.
Required qualifications:
Masters degree in a related discipline (i.e., social sciences and humanities with a specialization
in law) or law degree; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of law and society
and in the Canadian legal system; demonstrated evidence of experience teaching at the
undergraduate level; and, recent experience teaching through distance education.

The rate of pay for all positions is according to the LUMUN Collective Agreement.
