Atty. Seno explained that the ASEAN Community was established in
order to develop peace between nations, prosperity in the multiple
economies, and respect to people and to be able to care for one another.

Her topic was how to develop yourself, attract your employers and let

employability, communication capacity, roles, lifelong learning, short term
commitment, meaningful work, and cross-functional work.
2nd Speaker: Mrs. Hermie Go
Mrs. Go is the Vice President of AON Risk Solutions. Her topic was about
employee career path. She started her topic by introducing us with career
myths. The first myth was learning only in the classroom. The second
myth was that good grades are the equivalent of success. The third myth
is that individuals always act based on our beliefs and opinions. The
fourth myth states that a job is a job is a job. The fifth and final myth was
that success leads to happiness.
3rd Speaker: Dr. Marian Sionzon
Dr. Sionzons topic was about how statistician assists our researchers in
gathering data. She discussed about how statistics can aid in the
acquiring of results. She begins with the elements involved in the
planning of research, problem search and problem conceptualization.
Problem search means identifying factors linked to the preparation of
research (research agenda, area of study, and variables) and stating a
tentative research title while problem conceptualization pertains to the
formulation and evaluation of problems which supports the research
focus. She also mentioned research design which requires selecting a
research methodology and gathering the means (sampling technique,
instruments, and procedures) to implement them.

4th Speaker: Mr. Philip Tan

Mr. Tan is the President of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and
Industry. His topic was about lie and what your future might become. His
lecture involved his life and the challenges he faced. He shared the
lessons he learned and was willing to hear what problems/challenges the
next generation of future professionals was facing. He explains that we
should help others, reach out to the community in your own special no
matter how small it may seem. This also includes the employees who
can help companies succeed. He mentioned to be a good listener in
order to understand what they want.

4.) Evaluate the event/activity on the following (Values 1 as the lowest and 5 as
the highest)
Venue 3
Food 4
Topics 4
Speakers 4
5.) What is your Over-all Rating? (Values 1 as the lowest and 5 as the highest)
My overall rating would be 3. I am a visual learner and I hated how they placed
the projector in the middle of the sage when it used to be at both ends of the stage. It
distracts me how the words on the projector didnt seem interesting anymore.
Conventions should add more activities that would engage the listeners to listen to the
speakers. Though the venue wise, food, and flow of the program is good. The kit
upgraded to a bag which makes it more handy and useful to everyone instead of the
usual brown envelope.
B.) REFLECTION

I have learned a lot in this convention. Each speaker had different topics that
could help me in many ways. I learned more factors about what you need to become an
effective leader. I learned that everyone has their own style of leading and that if you
failed in that style, you can always stand back up again and use another technique. It
wont be the end if you failed, instead it would be a channel to more opportunities in life.

I learned that the company would not be successful and good enough if it wasnt for
their employees. Some speakers also mentioned what big changes would happen in the
upcoming ASEAN 2015 which means more competition would come. But I would like to
think that more competition would mean more opportunities. In this convention I learned
more about people management and the effective ways on how to handle your
employees. I learned that employee engagement is not the same as employee
happiness and that there are 3 key things in handing the 2015 workforce from the
upcoming ASEAN and that is to lead, to learn, and to be confident. We have to be
strong in our workforce in order to compete this 2015. In order to get employee
engagement, we need to connect with the employees and their career, be confident in
everything, always clarify the things and congratulate them when they have done
something good. Good employee development would lead to a very loyal employee. If
the employee is more than satisfied with his/her employer, then she would not anymore
look for another company and stay loyal to yours. The myths also helped me realize a
lot of things and changes my point of view in life.
