Assignment II (20 Marks) & Assignment III (20 Marks)


Scenario:
Congratulations! You are hired and welcome to Domingo Company. We are
a multinational company with a strong background in the business of
telecommunication, electrical, manufacturing and mechanical engineering.
As our new employee, we expect you to demonstrate your basic work
skills. Hence, your first work assignment is to complete this project which
requires you to carry out three (3) tasks:

Group Discussion/ Mock Meeting (10 Marks) - Assignment III


Report Writing (Recommendation Report) (20 Marks) Assignment II
Oral Presentation (10 Marks) - Assignment III

While completing the task, we would expect you to demonstrate your


competencies in communication skills, creative and critical thinking skills
as well as teamwork skill.
The followings are the instructions to complete the project. The
instructions consist of three (3) parts:
A. Instructions for group discussion
B. Instructions for report writing (recommendation report)
C. Instruction for oral presentation
A. Group Discussion/ Mock Meeting (10 Marks)
1. Form a group of 5-6 members. Appoint a leader and assign role for
each member. Your group is expected to perform the following task:

Identify a problem you would like to solve. For example, it is a


problem with the air conditioning system at your department.
Identify several possible solutions and recommend the best solution
for the problem. You need to provide justification for your
recommendation
OR

You identified a problem with the delivery system in two companies.


Compare and contrast these two systems and recommend a
solution.

2. You are expected to discuss and reach an agreement on the solution for
the problem identified. Finally you are required to present the process
of solving the problem via a written report and an oral presentation.

You have to conduct 3 group discussions in class:

Group discussion 1 - setting up group and roles of each member;


name of group; appoint a leader and a secretary (Week 6)
Group discussion 2 - decide a problem and distribute tasks to
each member (Week 7)
Group discussion 3 reporting the progress and problems (Week
11 - group discussion evaluation 20 Marks). Your group discussion
should be about 15 minutes long.

4. During the group discussions, please make sure that you have the
following elements and use the appropriate expressions for:

starting the discussion stating the objective of the discussion


taking turns to talk
reaching an agreement
differentiate between facts and opinion
expressing opinions (asking and giving)
expressing agreement/disagreement
making /asking for suggestions
drawing a conclusion

5. Your ability to demonstrate your communication skills in a group


discussion will be evaluated individually and it is worth 20 marks.
B.

Recommendation Report (20 Marks)

1. Based on the discussion in the group discussion you are expected to


report the problem and propose solutions in the form of a written report.
2. The report should contain the following components:
Introduction
o description of the background of the problem
o objective of the report

Body
o possible solutions
o suggested solution

Conclusion
o Derive conclusions from evidence presented in the
report.

Recommendation

3. In the writing of the report, you should demonstrate you writing skills
with respect to
a. the use of appropriate tenses, parallel structures and modifiers.

b. the use of appropriate vocabulary in context
c. the use of linking words
4. The report will be evaluated based on group effort and it is worth 20
marks. Your report should be about 10 pages long.
5. The report should follow this format:

Title page (course code, semester, lecturers name, students


names, students ID, title of report)
Page numbering
Headings and subheadings
Figures and tables (with numbering and captions)
Reference list (at least 2 references)
Appendix (articles, pictures, etc)

C. Oral Presentation (10 Marks)


1. Based on your group discussion and written report, you are to deliver a
15-20 minute group oral presentation.
2. Your ability to demonstrate your communication skills will be evaluated
individually and it is worth 10 marks for each candidate.
3. Please make sure that you adhere to the following requirements during
your presentation:
The first presenter greets the audience, introduces the whole team
and provides an overview of the presentation.
The other members do not have to introduce themselves.
Your presentation needs to be well-structured, organized with a
logical flow and delivered within the given time limit.
Use appropriate language and correct pronunciation.
Portray effective facial expressions, gestures, body movement and
eye contact, dress professionally and show clear voice modulation.
Show creativity in the use of visual aids and supporting materials.
Exhibit confidence when you communicate your ideas.
The last presenter needs to summarize and conclude the whole
presentation and thank the audience.
