Essential:
(i)

Masters Degree in Physics or Chemistry or Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Technology

from a recognized University or equivalent for respective discipline.

(ii)

Eight years experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions
or Science and Technology organization or and scientific activities and services, out of which
four years shall be in science and technology programme, planning, development and
cooperation.
Desirable:
Doctorate Degree in Physics or Chemistry or Masters Degree in Engineering or Technology
from a recognized University or equivalent for respective discipline.

Note: Period spent on acquiring essential qualifications shall not count towards experience. However,
period spent on acquiring doctorate degree from a recognised University or Institute in cases where doctorate
degree is not an essential qaulification, subject to a maximum of two years, and period spent on post
doctorate research in a University or research Institute as evidenced by certification by such University or
Institute and publication of research work in journals of repute, subject to maximum of two years, shall be
counted as experience.

AGE LIMIT :
The upper age limit for direct recruits shall be 35 years in case of Scientist C and 40 years in case of
Scientist D as on the closing date for receipt of application. The upper age limit is relatable for
Government Servants up to five years in accordance with the orders issued by the Central
Government.
Note 1: The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be closing date for receipt of application
and not the closing date prescribed for those in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh,
Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of Jammu and Kashmir
State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal
Pradesh, Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

SCREENING AND SELECTION PROCESS:The screening and selection process shall

be as prescribed by Central Government. The composition of the eligibility Committee, screeningContd3/-

-3cum-short listing Committee and interview Board etc. shall be as prescribed by Central
Government. However, majority of the members in the screening-cum-shortlisting Committee and
Interview Board, including the Chairman shall be from outside the Department of Science and
Technology. If considered necessary, the screening process shall include written test, to be
conducted by the Central Government directly or through any other Central Government agency or
organisation having experience and expertise in the area.

The number of posts to be filled may vary. The Department reserves the right to fill vacancies
arising subsequent to this advertisement under this recruitment process till the validity date of
the panel of recommended candidates in the main list or waiting list. The Department also
reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
The persons with disabilities shall be allowed to apply even if no vacancies are reserved for them.
Such candidates will be considered for selection for appointment to the posts on general standard of
merit.
The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not
entitle candidates to be called for interview. If the number of applications received in response to
Advertisement is large, the Department may restrict the number of candidates to be called for
interview to a reasonable limit through a shortlisting process based on a well-defined criterion which
may include possessing of desirable qualifications and / or experience more than that prescribed in
the advertisement and/or qualifications / experience in a particular field as per the specific
requirement of the Department. A panel of candidates will be prepared from the candidates called
for interview which will remain valid for 06 months from the date of interview. The panel can
be used to fill up vacancies arising as notified in this advertisement as well as vacancies arising
subsequently due to any reason (including vacancies arising due to resignation of DST scientists
or selection of DST scientists for higher posts) till the date of validity of the panel. No
correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not called for interview / selected for
appointment. CANVASSING IN ANY FORM WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF
CANDIDATURE.
Outstation candidates called for interview will be paid to and fro second class rail/sleeper class rail
fare by the shortest route.
The selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India and outside.
HOW TO APPLY : Applications should be neatly typed on thick plain paper (A-4 size 210 x 297
mm) only in the prescribed format given below.
Candidates working in Government Departments / Public Sector Undertakings / Autonomous
Organisations should apply through proper channel. Such applications will be considered only
if received through proper channel with NOC of the competent authority of parent Department
/ Organisation of the candidates within the prescribed last date of receiving applications. Such
applications if received after the last date shall not be considered even if an advance copy has
been received from the candidate before the last date or the competent authority of parent
Department / organisation has approved / signed / forwarded the applications before the last
date but the same is received in DST after the last date. Hence it is the responsibility of such
candidate to follow up their application in their department / organization and insure that their
application, duly forwarded by their competent authority are received by DST within the
prescribed time limit. NO RELAXATION SHALL BE GIVEN IN THIS REGARD.
Copies of certificates in support of educational qualifications, date of birth, Disability, Community
(in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates only) and experience should be attached with the application with
self attestation. Candidates will have to produce the original certificates as and when required.

be summarily rejected. DST shall not be responsible for any delay on the part of postal
department for delivery of application even if posted before the last date. No representation
against such rejection will be entertained.

the candidates applying for different posts) within 45 days** by 05.30 P.M in Technology Bhavan,
New Delhi. (60 (sixty) days for those in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur,
Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of Jammu and Kashmir State, Lahaul and Spiti District
and Pangi Sub Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and
Lakshadweep) including the date of publication of this advertisement in the Employment News /
Rozgar Samachar. In case the last date is Saturday/Sunday or closed holiday then the day prior to that
will be treated as last date of receipt of application. Candidates are also advised not to send
applications by ordinary posts or through courier. Candidates desiring to deliver their
applications by hand can do so only by delivering the application to any of the following authorized
