Dear Parents and Students,

This week we read realistic fiction stories. We read A Visit To
the Desert, Swamp Life, Sled
Dogs Run, and Cold Dog Hot
Fox. When we read we discussed setting, plot, and key
details.
Next week we will read The Boy
Who Cried Wolf, The Fox and
The Crane, Wolf Wolf, and Cinderella and Friends. When we
read we will continue to focus
on problem, solution, and plot.
We will learn about singular and
plural nouns and continue reviewing punctuation marks and
capital letters in our writing. We
will have our reading story, vocabulary, and our grammar test
on Friday.
Next week in spelling we will be
reviewing short and long u
words. Our spelling words next
week are: mules, fuse, plums,
use, cubs, dug, bug, dusted,
hummed, huge, must, trusting,
fun, drums, and must. Our
spelling and sentence dictation
test will be on Thursday.
Our tested vocabulary words
next week are believe, delicious
east, fond, lessons, remarkable,
snatch and stories. It is important that your child be able
to read these words, know what
they mean, and use them in a
sentences.
During our read aloud this week
we continued reading The Little
House on the Prairie by Laura

Ingles Wilder. Ask your child

what happened when the Indians came to the house?

This week in math we reviewed

odd and even numbers,
checked understanding of 3
digit numbers, used expanded
form to 1,000 and wrote number
words to 1,000! We continued
to work in our math centers,
solved problems in our math
journal, and reviewed our calendar skills.
Next week we will continue to
work on place value and counting within 1,000. We will have a
mid chapter check point on
Tuesday to check our understanding place value. We will
continue practicing our addition
strategies, and playing math
games.
