II. RATIONALE:
Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10533 (RA 10533), otherwise known as the
Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 which has expanded the years of schooling in
basic education from 10 years to 12 years, the Department of Education introduced
Grades 11 and 12 in the basic education system through Senior High School (SHS).
The SHS curriculum includes the 4 tracks namely: Academic, Technical-Vocational,
Sports, and Arts and Design. The Academic Track with its Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand helps prepare learners to obtain
advanced degrees in the STEM disciplines.
Learners of the Senior High School curriculum are designed to possess essential
knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and self-actualization; engage in critical
thinking and creative problem solving; contribute to the development of a progressive,
just, and humane society; and appreciate the beauty around him/her and cares for the
environment for a sustainable future.
In addressing the need to better prepare the Senior High School graduates as
21st century learners, the Davao City Senior High Schools offering STEM strand have
identified the necessary science laboratory equipment and apparatus to efficiently and
effectively facilitate instruction in their respective schools. These materials would
enable the learners to learn the concepts through discovery and to explain their
observations rooted on scientific principles. The provision of these instructional
equipment give every student an opportunity to receive quality education based on
pedagogically sound curriculum which matches with international standards.
Furthermore, this adheres to the policy declaration of the State to create a functional
basic education system that will develop productive and responsible citizens equipped

with the essential competencies, skills and values for both life-long learning and
employment.
In view of the above provisions, the procurement of the required equipment is
valid and necessary.

III

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

The DepED K to 12 curriculum has been implemented since SY 2012-2013. The first
batch Senior High School Grade 11 students will start this June, 2016 under School
Year 2016-2017. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
under the Academic Track is offered in selected Senior High Schools in Davao City.
Current inventory of existing science equipment and apparatus from these schools
showed that there is inadequacy of the materials needed to facilitate quality
pedagogical practices based on the newly adopted curriculum. In view of this, there is
a need to equip these schools with the necessary equipment and apparatus to
enhance teachers competence in teaching Science and for our learners to have a
better understanding and appreciation of Science Concepts.
IV.

OBJECTIVE
1. To provide at least 95% of the required science tools and equipment for the
Davao City Senior High Schools offering STEM.
2. To develop and enhance the knowledge and skills of learners in manipulating
the science equipment and apparatus.
