As we finish our series in John 8, where Jesus has been

questioning those who say they believe in Him, it is good
to examine our own souls before Christ (2 Cor. 13:5). Are
you certain that you have acknowledge your guilt before
God and committed to following Him? If so, how has Christ
encouraged you throughout this chapter?

Listen to advice and accept instruction, t hat you may

gain wisdom in the future. Proverbs 19:20
So many places in Scripture, we are urged and reminded to seek the input of others in our lives. The examples
in the Bible show it. The wisdom literature commends it.
The life of Jesus and his disciples exemplify it. The very
function of the church body requires it and the writings
of Paul command it. No Christian is exempt from the
need to have input from others in their life. We are called
to be involved in the lives of others and in the life of the
church regularly.
Too often though, we live our lives without seeking any
input from outside our own desires. We make our decisions with no counsel from others. We plod our course
and plan our days having never sought the benefit of
wisdom in the counsel of o
thers. Like a car with no
mirrors, we will see things from our own limited perspective, and we will find the road ahead a treacherous and
destructive path.

Bible Reading: John 3:16-21; James 4:11-17; Ecc. 7:1-14; Jer. 19-22

And making a whip of or cords, he drove them all out of the

temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the
coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables,
John 2:15.
John MacArthur writes: When the holiness of God and his
worship was at stake, Jesus took fast and furious action...
Yet, although his actions required brute force, they were not
cruel.
Jesus took action because the very purpose, why the temple
existed, was being obstructed and that purpose was worship.
Pray and ask the Lord to point out areas in your life, where
worship might be obstructed, so that you can take decisive
action.

Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks

out against all sound judgment. A fool takes no pleasure in
understanding, but only in expressing h
is o
pinion. Proverbs 18:1-2
There is a dangerous underlying motive for Christians
who do not regularly invite the input of others in t heir life.
When we isolate ourselves from the loving eyes of our
brothers and sisters, it is often because we are secretly
seeking our own desire. We say, I know what I want. And
I dont want anyone to tell me any differently. This is the
dangerous plan of a fool, and it is often accompanied by a
failure to listen to others even when they try to help.
Every believer would do well to not only heed the wise
counsel of other believers, but to seek out their input to
invite it! When we truly know that our hearts are deceitfully
wicked and we cannot trust ourselves, we will no longer
lean on our own understanding, but will actively pursue the loving input of faithful Christians whom God has
placed in our lives.
