The flowmeters subject of this manual are manufactured by ASA S.r.l. with top quality materials without defects and are warranted for a period of one year
from shipping date (unless otherwise agreed on order transmission), provided that they are used in accordance with the limits indicated in all sale documents
and technical bulletins, as per the instructions listed in this manual. Products that during such period do not operate properly and show mechanic or functional
defects will be, at our option, repaired or replaced, at no charge for customer. Repairs are normally warranted for 90 days or the balance of the original
warrant, whichever is longer.
The warranty includes all initial and hidden components defects, random failures and all undeterminable internal causes which do not depend on bad usage.
In any case, ASA shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential damages due to use, misuse or not-use of its instruments.
The warranty excludes all damages caused by the customer, such as improper electrical hook-up, converter or measuring tube damages caused by defective
mounting, usage in areas higher than protection class the instrument is to be installed in, use with not suitable fluid etc..
The manufacturer reserves the right to judge whether repair is to be effected under warranty or not after accurate check of the returned goods to ASA factory.
The warranty is valid for goods rendered ex our warehouse in Grumello del Monte (BG). In order to avail oneself of warranty, it shall be reported on
documentation our invoice number (or your PO number), model and serial number. Shipment is always at customer care and charge unless otherwise
agreed. All the expenses borne, in case of freight collect, will be debited in our repair invoice, unless otherwise agreed.
Export charges, foreign shipping methods and carriers are meant to be at customers end.

GOODS RECEPTION

Soon after receipt of goods, check that packing does not show any damage occurred during the conveyance.
If packing is damaged, open it immediately and control whether instruments were affected.
In case of damage, address your complaints to the forwarder and send a copy of your report to:

4 ATTENTION
WE SUGGEST TO USERS TO CAREFULLY FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS HEREBELOW
All instruments are designed and tested in order to respect all safety requirements so far established, and they are perfectly
functioning when leave the factory.
A dangerous situation can be present if the meter is not used for the purpose it is designed for or if it is misused.
We suggest to users and skilled staff to carefully follow instructions reported on this bulletin during installation, start-up and
maintenance phases on plants, paying particular attention to the following instructions.
ELECTRIC SHOCK DANGERS
On removing the converter housing lid, protection against accidental contact is no more present: switch off current before
estracting the converter from its housing.
Do not wire or install the meter if already powered.
DANGER FOR OUTFLOWING FLUID FROM THE MEASURING TUBE
During installation of the flowmeter on the plant, in order to avoid out-flowing of fluid it is necessary to centre the metering tube
on the pipe, using suitable flanges and following instructions reported in this manual.
USAGE
We strongly suggest as follows:
- to use the flowmeter fully respecting the technical data specification;
- to keep to the declared limits of working temperature, pressure and degree of protection;
- to respect fluid compatibility for construction used materials.
Failing temperature limits, it could cause structural modification of inner lining (i.e. PTFE coating if present) and as
consequence a damage on instruments itself, besides a probable damage of electronic board components.
Failing pressure limits, it could cause out-flowing of fluid from measuring tube with consequential damage of the instrument.
ASA technical department can suggest during bid phase the best construction materials according to the kind of required
application and fluid compatibility.

INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION

The metal tube Asameter model C/G5/6.... 000/47-50 Eexd IIC is provided with a vertical scale magnetic indicator, an
electronic converter with LCD display (if present), and an EXPLOSION PROOF Eexd IIC case which is fastened to the front
part of the instrument.
For safety reasons, the mobile equipment (1) is locked before delivery; electronic board (if present)(2) is already programmed
in agreement to declared process data.
The Asameter consists of a conical tube (3) with welded top/bottom connections; a float (4), incorporating a permanent
magnet, moves inside the metering tube, driving the flowmeter mobile equipment, magnetically coupled. The cover is
connected to the meter by horizontal brackets.

INSTALLATION OF THE ASAMETER ON THE DUCT

To grant working, fluid flow must be in the vertical upward direction (bottom to top). During installation it is advisable to keep
the mobile equipment fastened, avoiding any twist force both on the casing and the magnetic extension's plate.
Make sure that the inlet and outlet ducts to the instrument are perfectly in-line with the axis of the pipeline and the flanged
connections perfectly parallel. Faulty alignment could lead to structure deformation, especially concerning small size Asameters.
After installation, check the instrument for vertical alignment by means of a plumb-line, on two perpendicular faces.
Respecting given indication, it grants maximum sensitivity and accuracy. The magnetic indicator is now ready to operate at its
best.

8 START UP OF THE MOBILE EQUIPMENT AND THE ELECTRONIC CONVERTER

After installing the Asameter between flanges, mobile equipment and electronic converter (if present) start up will follow.

CAUTION!
ASSEMBLING, ELECTRICAL WIRING AND MAINTENANCE WORK MUST BE DONE ONLY BY QUALIFIED STAFF,
TRAINED TO WORK IN DANGEROUS OR CLASSIFIED AREAS.
FOLLOWS ALL ACTUAL RULES FOR INSTALLATION OF INSTRUMENTS IN DANGEROUS OR CLASSIFIED AREAS.
BEFORE OPENING THE CASE, BE SURE THAT POWER IS SWITCH OFF AT LEAST FOR 10 MINUTES AS MINIMUM.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT START UP
Loose the check locking screw (15) to avoid damage of surfaces. Unscrew the lid (6) and the 3 screws (14) that fix the front
plate (16) to the extension group. Pull out the blocking element of the pointer (10) making particular attention not to rotate
reciprocally the pointer and the magnet bearings, because this could cause the calibration of the meter to fail. After this
operation, the index is free to rotate and to rest on its rest position (R).

10 OPERATION WITH THE HART PROTOCOL

Besides local operation, this Asameter can also be configurated for working with Hart protocol.
For this purpose it is possible to use a Hart communicator with universal handheld terminal or a personal computer with
specific software for Hart FSK 1200 bps Bell 202 (e.g. SIMATIC PDM Siemens).
In INSTRUMENT DATA it is possibile to see:
PV= primary variable:
Flow
SV= secondary variable:

TV= third variable:

QV= fourth variable:

and other parameters or measuring values like the current loop (4-20mA).

11 START UP OPERATIVE PROCEDURE

As pipe lines can be very dirty with iron chips or dust, it is advisable to install magnetic filters upstream the instrument to
avoid impurity being attracted by the permanent magnet inside the float, upsetting or all together blocking flow measurement.
lf magnetic filters are not available, remove the floats from the instruments and clean pipe line thoroughly before operating.

12 REMOVAL OF THE FLOAT

To remove the float from the instrument, release the upper float stop by removal of the fastening elastic ring. Subsequently
pull out the float stop from its seat and lift out the float.
CAUTION!
NEVER ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE FLOAT FROM THE BOTTOM END OF THE INSTRUMENT.

13 MAINTENANCE
The flow indicator does not require any special maintenance excepting for the cleaning of the ball bearings, which should
never be lubrificated. Concerning the Asameter itself, the only care we recommend is the cleaning of the internal part of the
measuring tube and the float's surface. Pay special attention to the sharp edges and the surfaces concerned of float and
orifice not to damage them during float extraction.
