KEYS ES Unit 1 Introduction to Earth Science and Maps and Mapping Test
Review Assignment
In preparation for our first test, complete the Section 1.2 (page 10 in both 2006 and
2009) and Section 1.3 (page 17 in both 2006 and 2009) Assessment questions listed
below.
Answers must be in complete sentences. Additionally, the answer must make sense
on its own. So, either write out the question and then answer it OR, be sure to
reflect the question in your answer. Here is an example of the question reflected in
the answer:
The question:

What sort of energy allows the tectonic plates to move?

An answer The energy which allows the tectonic plates to move is the unequal
distribution of heat within the internal parts of the Earth.
Assignment must be written in ink or completed and printed using a word
processing program.
So, how useful are the reading notes you took?
First, use your notes that you took as homework assignments to answer the
questions. In your notes did you include enough detail to answer the questions well?
If not, consult your textbook for the information you need and learn that the next
time you take notes, you must include more detail. Once you learn to take excellent
notes, youll notice how efficient it is to be able to rely on your notes without
searching and re-reading the textbook.
Here is an example of an answer with sufficient detail.
The two lines which mark zero degrees on the globe are the Prime Meridian and the
Equator. The Prime Meridian runs in the direction of north and south and the
Equator runs in the direction of east and west.
From this answer, write what you think the question was:
