Bible Verses That Say Jesus Is God

One of the main doctrines of Christianity is Jesus deity. Although other religions have numerous gods, Christianity doesnt just say that
Jesus is God, the Father is a god, and the Holy Spirit is a God. No, Christianity proclaims that the trinity (father, son, and Holy Spirit) is
the godhead 3 in 1! They are not separate deities. Furthermore, most other religions deny Jesus deity. They may claim He is a good
mangreat evenbut wont come to confess that He is God. There is a lot of evidence of Jesus being God, though. All throughout
Scriptures, and even from the mouth of Jesus Himself, it is stated that He is God. Here are the top 7 Bible verses that say Jesus is God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NASB
To start things off, we might as well begin here. The very first words in the book of John proclaim that Jesus is divine. Jesus was there
at the beginning because He was, in fact, God.
I and the Father are one. 31 The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, I showed you many
good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me? 33 The Jews answered Him, For a good work we do not
stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God. John 10:30-33 NASB
Can you get any more specific than this? Jesus, in a very straightforward and blunt way, affirms His deity by saying I and the Father
are one. Still dont buy thats what he was saying? Well, just look at the crowds response. The religious leaders knew what Jesus said
which is precisely why they wanted to stone Him!
Jesus heard that they had put him out; and finding him, He said, Do you believe in the Son of Man? 36 He answered and
said, And who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him? 37 Jesus said to him, You have both seen Him, and He is the one who
is talking with you. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped Him. John 9:35-38 NASB
Another great argument within Scripture for the divine nature of Jesus is the fact that He was worshippedand allowed it! In many of
his teachings he told the disciples that God alone is to be worshipped. So, it would be hypocritical of Him to then accept worship from
people, right? NO! Why? Because Jesus is Godso He alone is worthy of praise and worship.
For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form. Colossians 2:9 NASB
This is speaking specifically about Christ. Can it get any clearer?
Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.' John 8:58 NASB
Isnt this reminiscent of how God told Moses to call Him I AM? Perhaps Jesus is saying something here (actually, He DEFINITELY is).
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full
of grace and truth. John 1:14 NASB
Who else could this be referring to but Jesus? He was the Word who became flesh and then dwelt among us. He came in the form of a
little baby, grew up among humankind, had a job, family, and ministryHe was one of us. Yet, at the same time, He was also divine.
Wow!
Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God! John 20:28 NASB
As if Jesus words were not good enough, here Thomas (often referred to as doubting Thomas) proclaims that Jesus is God. This is
after the resurrection and after Thomas felt the holes in Jesus hands. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the man before Him,
Jesus, was truly God.

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and
his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace.

Does the Bible Say, That the Holy Spirit Is God?

Before we look at the interrelationship of God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit, we have to quickly establish that the
Holy Spirit is God. I think, if you could follow and accept the reasoning in the earlier parts, there should not be much of a problem to
accept that the Holy SPIRIT can be God (who is spirit), when even Jesus, a human being can be God in the flesh.
Jesus could say "I and the Father are one" and by now we can understand that meant it to mean "The Father and I are the same one
God". Yes, it also means one in purpose, one in opinion etc, but this would be too weak a representation of what the whole Gospel set
out to show, namely that Jesus IS God.
So, to establish the Deity of the Holy Spirit, I will go a similar path and establish the "equality" between the Spirit and the other persons
of the Godhead.
John 14:16-18
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [and this word in Greek means: another of the same kind] Helper, that He may
abide with you forever -- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know
Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
This is from Jesus' "fare well" discourse. And he tells his disciples that he will send another one to 'replace' him when he will be no
longer physically among them. And it is no stranger. He already lives WITH them (He is Jesus - that is my interpretation of it and this is
consistent with all I know from the Bible) and then will soon be in them (the Holy Spirit). And indeed in the last sentence he says "I will
come to you". He is speaking of himself and the Spirit as having one identity.
In Luke 12 Jesus speaks to those who deliberately oppose Jesus and attribute his work to Satan:
10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will
not be forgiven.
But you can only blaspheme against God, so it is clear from this that the Holy Spirit is God, not Gabriel or some other spirit sent by
God, as some Muslims contend.
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord IS the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
So, again the Spirit and the Lord (Jesus, see context) are one in identity (one God, that is) but nevertheless, still somehow 'separate'
since it is the 'Spirit OF the Lord'. This is the same principle of "sameness" and "distinctiveness" between Jesus and the Spirit as we
have seen between Jesus and God the Father.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?
So, earlier Jesus was promising that the Spirit would come to dwell in them. Now the assumption is that it is Jesus who is in them.
And indeed, Jesus says the same thing in John 14:23
Jesus replied: "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with
him.

In the context of all the other verses, the 'with' in the last line makes the best sense as 'within'. God is everywhere and that does not
depend on our obedience. So, Jesus would not really say anything new or profound if it were not to mean that they will live 'in' the
those who love and serve God.

Acts 5:3-4
But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for
yourself? "While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived
this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."
Lying to the Holy Spirit (verse 3) is lying to God (verse 4). So, it seems again, that the Spirit is God.
Just a short list of more verses to look up:
The Holy Spirit is God

1) the Spirit has the divine characteristics

- omnipresence (especially: He lives in all believers)
Ps 139:7-12; John 14:17-18
- omniscient
1 Cor 2:10
- grace
Zechariah 12:10; Hebr. 10:29
- holiness, glory
Romans 1:4; 1 Peter 4:14
- life
Romans 8:2,10; 2 Cor 3:6
- love
Romans 15:30; 2 Tim 1:7
- unsearchable greatness
Isaiah 40:13
- truth
John 14:17; 15:26: 16:13; 1 John 5:6
- where the Spirit is, there is power Acts 1:8; 2 Tim 1:7; Romans 15:13,19
- sovereignty
John 3:8; 1 Cor 12:11
2) the Spirit has divine names
-

Spirit of God
Numbers 24:2; Rom. 8:9,14; 2 Chr. 15:1
Spirit of the Lord
Judges 3:10; 6:34; Is. 11:2; 2 Cor 3:17
Spirit of the Father
Matth. 10:20
Spirit of Jesus
Acts 16:7
Spirit of Christ
Romans 8:9
Spirit of the Son
Galatians 4:6
paraclete, i.e. the advocate,
John 14:16,26; 15:26
helper, counselor

Okay, let those be enough.

Result: By now we have established, that the person of Jesus Christ is equally God with God, the Father, and also the Holy Spirit is
God as the other two persons are God. They share the same divine nature or character. The early Church
fathers/leaders/bishops/theologians have formulated this in the following way: "God is one in essence (His nature) but three persons"
who are distinct but act in complete harmony. There is no strife or 'competition' between them of any kind.

Top 7 Bible Verses On the Holy Spirit

Here are 7 of the top Bible verses on the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph,
before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
Here is concrete evidence that Jesus had no human father, thereby avoiding original sin. The Holy Spirit Himself is how Jesus was
conceived in Mary and by Him and by the human mother Mary, Jesus was begotten of the Holy Seed or by God Himself. This also

clearly shows that Mary was a virgin at conception because the Scripture says before they came together she was found to be with
child but it was not from a man but from the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to
your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Anyone that denies the Trinity has to rip out dozens of Scriptures from their Bible. Here is evidence that the Holy Spirit is a Person as
He is identified as the Helper and by name, the Holy Spirit. Both are capitalized because they are a Persona proper noun and the
Spirit is called a He who will teach us all things and will bring remembrance [to] all that [Jesus] said to [them]. Again that sounds
like the work of a Person and not a force because we see the use of He, the Helper, and the Spirit and even the Holy Spirit. This
is He Who the Father was to send. Jesus said, the Father shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even
the Spirit of truth (John 14:16) again evidence of the Spirit being a Person being called the names, the Comforter and the Spirit of
truth.
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and
in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Once more He is named by the personal pronoun the Holy Spirit and He is the source of this power that the apostles receivedand
when they were to receive the Holy Spirit of God He will give them the very power of God which will come upon them and comes upon
those who believe in the Son of God.
Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit.
Here we read Jesus giving the imperative command to go and make disciples of all nations and then to baptize them into the name of all
Three Persons of the Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each being an individual Person of the God-head. This is not a
mention of water baptism but more about baptizing them into or being identified with the Three Persons of the Trinity. In this context,
baptizing the new disciples means that the person who becomes a disciple is to be identified with all Three Persons of the Trinity: The
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:5 Hope does not put us to shame, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit
who has been given to us.
God has poured out His love on us but how does He do this? He does it through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us not by what
we do. God is love and even our loving God did not originate from us but as John wrote We love because he first loved us (1
John 4:19) and it was not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10).
John 3:16 does not say that we so loved God that He sent His only Son so that if we believe in Him we should not perish but have
everlasting life, rather it says that God so loved the world [first] so that whoever would believe in Him (Christ) should not perish but
has everlasting life. God is the initiator and the Holy Spirit of God is through Whom this love comes.

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the
Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of
the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Have you ever had dry times when trying to pray? I most certainly have. It seems at times I cant find the right words to pray with so
thats when the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words and because the Spirit intercedes for the saints
according to the will of God we can receive His help and power to know what to pray for, even if we cant put it into words. He also
helps us pray according to Gods will. Its not always easy to pray for Gods will because we see with the eyes of flesh.
Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness
of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Since we know that grace is a gift from God and unmerited by any works that we could ever do and that we can only be saved by grace
through faith (Eph 2:8-9) we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sins and points us to our need for the Savior. The
Spirit always points us to Christ because He knows that this is the only way a person can have their sins forgiven; repentance and faith
and after that, the gift of the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to live a holier life and be sanctified by Him. Living the Christian life is not
hardits impossible but the Holy Spirit makes the improbable possible because we have the very power of God within us.
