Ben Carson: The Man for the Job

This coming spring, the Republican Party will have an important choice to make concerning who
will be the Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential election. The two candidates who show the most
promise are the bombastic billionaire Donald Trump and the quiet brain surgeon Ben Carson. The party
must make their decision on who they believe is the best man for the job based on personality, beliefs and
character. These two candidates, although they may both claim to both be Republicans, differ vastly from
each other in character, beliefs, and personality.
First of all, these two candidates differ in their personality types. When electing someone to office,
the first thing people often look at is the candidates personality. Ben Carson, who in his younger years
attempted to stab one of his friends in a fit of rage, is now the perfect example of a quiet, meek person. He
has never been known to shout at or get angry at a person who disagreed with his views or irritated him in
any way. Compare this to Donald Trump, famous for his violent temper, which can be roused by the most
trivial things; and his habit of firing his employees on a whim.
Second, Trump and Carson, while both professing Christians and Republicans, hold different
positions on several key issues. On the hot issue of firearms regulation, Trump has stated that he believes
that regulations on firearms should be loosened considerably with concealed weapon permits being
allowed in every state (much like drivers licenses). Carson, however, holds that semi-automatic weapons
should be restricted and other regulations should be tightened. On immigration, Trump is very vocal in
calling the Mexican immigrants good-for nothing thieves and murderers. Carson has said that they are
mostly good people, with some exceptions, and most should be allowed to at least find work here and
possibly citizenship.

Finally and most importantly, they have very different characters. Ben Carson is considered to be a
kind and fairly honest person. He has never engaged in any of the political mudslinging that is the sport of
political campaigns. Trump, however, is completely at the other end of the spectrum with his belittling
remarks concerning other political opponents and his use of any means to gain his own desires. Trump
has taken to attacking his political opponents with scathing remarks concerning their dealings or
background. Carson, on the other hand, is known for his quiet and occasional critiquing of others.
In conclusion, after looking over the differences between the two candidates and what they stand for,
I cannot see how anyone can choose Donald Trump over Ben Carson. These candidates differ so much in
personality, character, and beliefs that it is difficult to say that they are both equally qualified for the job
of President. I will end with a warning to voters: they must make their decisions based on the aspects
discussed here and not on their emotions.
