So which is more important? Let us first look at a clear definition of each of

these two concepts.
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is explained as :
The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to han
dle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. "emotional intel
ligence is the key to both personal and professional success"
IQ or your intelligent quotient is explained as:
an assessment of your intelligence derived from standardized tests that m
easure problem solving abilities, spatial imagery, memory, general knowledge, a
nd other factors.
In short, your IQ result states whether you are clever, or not and your EQ is a
ll about your emotional state of mind.
The importance is that you have the opportunity to improve both your IQ and you
r EQ !
A lot has been written about wanting to improve our lives. We often want to do
this for ourselves, but sometimes we are pressured by our peers, parents or some
one from the outside. Some outer force or inner drive is constantly encouraging
us or pushing us to be a better person than we currently are.
So if someone else believes that we can be better, what exactly is stopping us
from being the best we can? Nobody wants to be a loser. Other times we are je
alous of others and this jealousy forces us to make some improvements to change
our outlook on life.

But how can we improve ourselves successfully?
Step 1- Improve your knowledge and skills.
No one knows everything. Some people see a lack of knowledge as a personal flaw
, and never admits to themselves that they might possibly lack some knowledge or
skill. An old Chinese proverb says: He who asks a question, is a fool for five
minutes: he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever. We should consta
ntly try to improve our performance. We are never too old to learn, and while e
veryone is concentrating here on Steemit, I find this an excellent platform to b
roaden my general knowledge. Constantly improving your skills and knowledge wil
l take you a long way to improve your general performance.
Step 2- Learn to manage your priorities.
Too little time and too much to do. We are all busy in our lives. We CAN'T do
everything in one day. We need to learn how to prioritize to finish the importa
nt things first. My suggestion is to make a list of all your priorities, and st
icking to that list. Write down everything important that needs to be done in y
our day, and after completing those tasks you HAVE to do on a particular day, th
en you can do things that you WANT to do. Remember all work and no play makes Ja
ck a dull boy. You need time for yourself.

Step 3 - Develop a positive mental attitude.

Building relationships with others, are a very important part of our lives. Main
taining that good relationship takes hard work and perseverance. In your job si
tuation you are in contact with people constantly. Here on Steemit you are buil
ding your community and constantly communicating with others through your posts.
To develop a positive attitude increases your EQ and you will overall be a happ
ier person.
Research shows that people are likely to remember negative experiences more than
positive experiences. In fact, negative emotions generally involve more thinkin
g than positive emotions. People are more likely to choose things based on their
need to avoid negative experiences, even if they have to sacrifice the opportun
ity of having a positive experience.
Why is Emotional Intelligence so important?
We all know that emotions play a crucial role in the overall quality of our pers
onal and professional lives. EQ is far more crucial than our actual measure of
brain intelligence (I.Q.). Tools and possibly technology can help us to master
some information, but nothing can replace our ability to manage and master our e
motions.

Relationships The better you understand and manage your emotions, the better yo
u are able to communicate your feelings in a more constructive way. Understandin
g the needs, feelings, and responses of those we care about, leads to stronger a
nd better relationships.
Conflict Resolution Increased emotional intelligence improves our ability to neg
otiate due to the very nature of our ability to understand the needs and desires
of others. Its easier to give people what they want if we actually know WHAT the
y want.
Success Higher emotional intelligence improves your self- motivation. This incr
eases self-confidence and improves your ability to focus on a goal.
