As a professional educator, I accept the challenges, and seize the opportunities, that will provide the means for my
students to be successful in life. I believe in fostering a community of learners, and our class will function like a team
striving for success and perfection. Everyone should be equally comfortable: in my classroom, with each other, and with
the material that is being discussed in class. With your hard practice, and my guidance, I foresee a great season of
Language Arts this year.
Students will be expected to:
1) Follow all directions
2) Bring required materials to class (pen, paper, assignments; points will be lost for not being prepared)
3) Be in the classroom when the bell rings
4) Respect and accept our classmates and teacher
5) Be a part of the class, participate. Your opinion does matter in our class discussions and group projects
Students who choose to follow the above will:
1) Positive recognition
2) Class accommodation (student of the month award)
3) Privileges to be announced

4) Positive phone call home

5) An Outstanding in citizenship

Students choosing not to adhere to the above will earn:

1) 1st Violation: Non-verbal warning/warning by peers
2) 2nd Violation: Verbal warning
3) 3rd Violation: 15 min. break detention
4) 4th Violation: 30 min. lunch detention/parent contact
5) 5th Violation: 1 hour after/before school detention/ parent and student conference
Consequences are earned on a daily basis. The EHS Tardy, Absence, and Cheating policies will be enforced in conjunction
with this management plan (see EHS handbook).
In addition to the above, the following Severe Clause will be enforced:
1) Any student acting with hostility towards another student, or teacher, will immediately be sent to the office.
2) Any student cheating, suspected to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol, or participating in any behavior that may
injure himself or others will also be immediately sent to the office.
Severe Clause items bypass the first four steps of the CMP. In either instance, students are referred and parents contacted
on the first offense.

Grading Policy: (Progress reports will be sent at mid-quarter to all students).

1) All grades will be based on total points, which include: tests and quizzes, major written projects, class work,
homework, participation, in-class writing, and other assignments as they come up.
2) Students may rewrite any paper if they are not satisfied with the grade they receive; however, it must be revised and
returned no later than 3 days after it was returned from the teacher.
3) Unexcused late work will be marked down a full grade (remember, though, a low grade is better than no grade), and
will not be accepted a week past the original due date.
4) Any consideration towards rounding up will only be given if all assignments have been turned in and student has
been a consistent participant in the classroom.
Homework
1) Assigned homework MUST be completed upon entering the classroom to receive credit. Tests will not be given on
Mondays; homework assignments MAY be given over the weekends.
2) Students should expect to engage in a lot of writing this year. Students can expect at least 3-4 major essays per
semester. Class time will be given to get started on some writing assignments; however, they will require sufficient
effort at home as well.
3) All essays should be typed, double-spaced, and in 12 font. Students without access to a computer must see teacher,
and will be given Class time to attend the library to use their computers.
Cheating Policy
1) The EHS Cheating Policy is clearly outlined in the student handbook. All students are expected to fully understand,
and comply with, the student handbook.
Makeup Work
1) Students will be given two days for every day that they are absent, to makeup missed assignments. It is recommended

that students request a homework collection through the office, contact me by phone/e-mail, or send a friend to my
classroom for work. Students are responsible to ask about missed assignments.
