Prior Knowledge (Coherence)

Which foundational/prerequisite skills can be linked to the new
concept?
- A foundation in factoring quadratic equations will come in handy
when doing these problems. After doing a few factoring problems, we
will begin to use the quadratic formula to achieve the same solutions.
Summative Assessment
Planning with the end in mindWhat assessment tool will you
administer to have students demonstrate mastery of the learning
objective at the end of the lesson?
- The students will receive a pizzazz worksheet that will assess their
mastery of the learning of the quadratic formula.
How Will
Sequence of Activities (Rigor) Instructional
Strategies
Students
1. Practice quadratic equations
Demonstrate
with factoring.
Active
2. Quadratic Formula is
Engagement?
introduced

Students will
work together in
groups and
discuss answers
that they arrive
at.

3. Example is modeled for the

students.
4. Students will practice
application of the quadratic
formula.
Formative Assessment: How
will students be expected to
demonstrate conceptual
understanding of the learning
objective during class checks for
understanding?

Students will be
asked to work in
groups to
demonstrate
understanding
of the concept.

Conceptual Understanding
How will the concept be developed
to build student making sense and
reasoning?

The students
will build their
skill on using
the Quadratic
Formula to work
on word
problems.
Application: The deep
understanding of this content will
provide students the foundation
for the following Mathematics
CCSS

Procedural Fluency
How will students understanding
of the learning target be
determined?
The students will turn in the
worksheet which will assess that
their learning target has been
mastered with a proficiency of
70%.

Model with mathematics

Look for and make use of
structure.
Construct viable arguments and
critique the reasoning of others.

Connections to further learning in math and other disciplines.

(Application)
