Reflectiononlesson:
IwasunabletofinishthislessonbutIwouldhavegradethestudentsontheirstoriesandiftheyhadusesthe
elementsofastory.IfIdidgradethestudentonparticipation,Ithink85%ofthestudentsparticipatedand
learnedwhatthewordsmean.Mystudentslearnedwhatthewords,jostle,retire,andobstaclewere.My
intentionwasforthemtolearnthewordsandbeabletousetheminasentence.TheydidthiswhenIaskedfor
examples.Ithinkthemostsuccessfulpartofmylessonwasthereviewofthevocabularywords.Ithinkthis
wassuccessfulbecausetheDoNowsrelatedtothedefinitionsofthevocabularywords.Thestudentswill
hopefulrememberthemmoresincetheyareabletoconnectwiththeirownexperiences.Onethingthatwas
unsuccessfulwastheguidedactivity.Intheguidedactivitytherewasalotoftalkingandsomegroupsdidnot
remainfocused.ThiswasunsuccessfulbecauseIgavethemtoomuchtimetocomeupwithasmallskit.The
groupswerelargeraswell.InthefutureIwillpacemyselfbetter,bysettingatimerandlimitingthetime
studentshavetocompletegroupassignments.Ithinkthiswillbeeffectivebecauseitwillallowthemtofocus
andhaveasenseofurgencywhenworkingtogether.
