CMAS/PARCC DATA (Spring 2016) - Where are we?

Good news for GROWTH of our students, more work to do on PROFICIENCY

See Soroco data from the Spring of 2016

2016-17 is Baseline year for PARCC and us
The work is on leadership and teachers, our experts in instruction
Adults have to go first
Kids will perform at the level teachers have in their mind
The floor is set by leadership and the Board of Education
The story of having such good kids
Theres no excuse for Hayden beating us in academics!

BELIEFS - Where do we start?

We MUST have a sense of urgency in every classroom, in every lesson, in

our action plan, and in everything we do!

We will not spend our time and energy disparaging...

Each other! E.g., how students come to us, having to do someone elses work of catching
students up, some students are just poor performers, etc.
CMAS/PARCC, state/local assessments, Colorado Academic Standards
Teaching to the test, Common Core, low expectations of any student
Or make excuses, e.g., small N sizes, bad parenting, high staff turnover
Any student with low expectations, teaching to the upper 15%, etc.

Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Work

We will not spend our time and energy disparaging.

Miss Downer

Mr. Slug

Each Other!

Parents!

Making Excuses!

CMAS/PARCC, etc.!

Some students wont make it, just like

his old man didnt. So what if theyre
poor at academics, they are such good
kids they deserve an A.

Its not my fault, its bad parenting. We

are just too small and dont have the
resources to do all those things. Our
kids dont need all this, I didnt get it
when I was in school and I turned out
fine.

Our n size is too low to get a valid

measure, so all the scores are invalid,
those tests are for large urban schools,
not us;

Mr. Slug passed these poor performing

students, now I have to do his job! The
elementary school sends kids to us
who cant read!

KEY FOCUS
STATEMENTS
Where are we going?

Research says:

1. Time on task toward the

standards, viable curriculum;
2. During the day Academic
Interventions to make sure
every student in class got the
concept for the day;
3. NUMERACY, LITERACY!; and
4. Medium of Assessment Matters
- Practice, practice, practice...

KEY FOCUS STATEMENTS - What do we know?

RIGOR
Set Grade Level Expectations, district-wide, that meet or exceed those established
by the State of Colorado
Create assessments that measure a students ability to meet those expectations
Hold students to these expectations. Do not let them slide by.
DO NOT ACCEPT WORK THAT DOES NOT FULFILL THE PREVIOUS YEARS
EXPECTATIONS!

KEY FOCUS STATEMENTS - What do we know?

RESULTS
Our goal is to be #1 in demographically (same/similar
N-count, free/reduced lunch (FRL), English language
learners (ELL), poverty, race, and ethnicity) comparable
state districts on all Colorado Measures of Academic
Success assessments.

TARGET #1:
PERCENT
PROFICIENCY

Out of ten (10)

comparable districts
with similar
demographics, we will
out perform all of them
and be #1 for proficiency
results in Year 1
(2016-17)

TARGET #2:
PERCENT
GROWTH

Our students will

grow at the 60+
percentile in Year 1
(2016-17)
