What if, in just 2 days, together, we could funnel local and globally
sourced passion, skill, talent and cutting edge technology through
creative collaboration and partnering processes to achieve
blueprints for change that are actionable, achievable and
desirable to individuals, businesses and local and state
government?
At Big Blue Sky, we call this kind of blueprint a Moonshot.
A blueprint that will change the future of our planet and align our
resources in ways we simply have not yet imagined.
Through October 7th & 8th, our carefully curated 26+ amazing
global change-makers will share interactively, the models they
have built and are already implementing with extraordinary
results. These are models we can learn from to springboard our
creation of this years Moonshots.
Some of the themes are already set and they are all deeply
interconnected.
They all require a very different approach than business-asusual.
Each has the potential to have the Gold Coast become known as
a truly intelligent, innovative and citizen driven city that celebrates
and activates resilience & opportunity through diversity.

Day one, we open the opportunity.

Day two, we bring it all together, defining the trajectory of each
Moonshot for greatest impact.

What is the Future of Education?

Dr Catherine Ball, Telstra Business Women of the Year
and Environmental Scientist, known as the drone
queen, wants to train our girls to fly. To take up STEAM.
Matt Desmier is back from the UK to challenge us to
consider tech and education as inextricably linked. Our
local Startup Creative, Kaylene Langford, supports the
education of young adults in the crazy world of startups.
Our facilitator, Shannon Willoughby, CEO of Study Gold
Coast, lives and breathes the city as an education
centre of excellence every day.

Are we a City with Heart?

How do we leave no one behind? Shelley Craft, well
known as a TV personality, is the Parton of RizeUp, a
social enterprise finding solutions to domestic violence.
And Nic and Luke, Young Australians of the Year, CoFounders of Orange Sky Laundry, wanted to restore
dignity to the homeless. So they got to it. Casey Lyons
gave up his life as a carpenter to seek pathways to end
the rising rate of suicide, particularly in our youth. Vicki
Batten is one of our cities greatest secrets, an
incredible CEO (FSG) who inspires a team of over 1000
to be the voice of those who need our support. And
Clive van Deventer, CEO of Bartercard, knows that big
business can be the change for good and acts from that
place.

Financial Innovation
Thirdly, we come to funding and financial innovation.
The system we currently have to fund business and
social enterprise is just one operating system of many.
Yet most of us do not ask what is the alternative.
Hassan Khan, our guest from Toronto Canada, believes
there are other ways, based on his experience of four
years of building a model called Quantius. Meanwhile a
Brisbane born entrepreneur, Joshua Vial, has built a
vibrant community of 40 social entrepreneurs in
Wellington NZ over the last 6 years using a very
different model of collaboration. And Michel Bauwens,
the recognised global voice of Peer to Peer, will bring
his beautiful wisdom to our conversation. Finally, David
Martin has been busy since Big Blue Sky 2015 working
with CNBC to develop a DowJones equivalent of
Innovative Companies. This is a world first! David is
back to ensure that we all stay honest whilst providing
insightful distinctions on the finance industry that will
enable all of us to formulate effective questions that will
make a difference to our personal and community
funding needs.

Finally, can we put the Gold Coast on the global map as

a city known as a centre of sports excellence? And
while we are at it, can we become the most active and
health city in Australia? Big Blue Sky thinks so, and our
panelists are committed to this.

What is needed is your voice.

volunteers.
