1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Work Method Statement for Plastering of Concrete and Masonry Walls is to outline and
describe in detail the procedure such as setting and lay-out plan on actual location, erection of scaffolding,
mixing of cement plaster, rendering of wall and all other related activity. Inform all concerned supervisor
including workers the value and importance of this activity prior to implementation. This activity should be
performed with strict compliance and implementation of Safety Requirements & Procedure and project
specifications to complete the rendering work both for concrete and masonry walls.
2. SCOPE
The scope of this Method Statement covers the works in any Project

(Building and Substation) including buildings in existing plant as follows:

Plastering of concrete structure and masonry walls both for exterior and interior walls.
3. STEP OF WORKS
3.1 Preliminary preparation

Cleaning of completed masonry wall and concrete structure prior to survey markings and lay-out.

Lay-out and put markings on the concrete structure and masonry wall the correct and final alignment and
required thickness of plastering.
3.2 Scaffolding and work at heights

Please refer to WMS for Scaffolding Installation

3.3 Plaster Mix Ratio/Materials

Refer to MAR ARC-0021 for ready mix plaster.

3.3.1 Using Ready Mix Products:

In India
Manual mix, a ready mixed spatterdash slurry coat for blocks, for first application
Manual mix, a ready mixed spatterdash slurry coat for fair faced concrete, also for first application
Manual mix, cement based dry ready mix plaster, for final completion and finishing up to required thickness for
plastering works. For better result refer to Manufacturers recommended preparation, mixing and application
properly.
In abroad
Premix SRC-1, a ready mixed spatterdash slurry coat for blocks, for first application
Premix SRC-2, a ready mixed spatterdash slurry coat for fair faced concrete, also for first application
Premix SP-1, cement based dry ready mix plaster, for final completion and finishing up to required thickness for
plastering works. For better result refer to Manufacturers recommended preparation, mixing and application
properly.
3.3.2 Using Cement: Sand Proportional Mix with plasticizer

Refer to BS 5262: 1991 Table I, Using mix designation II of cement: sand (using plasticizer)

1: 3 to 4.
3.4 Plastering/Rendering
3.4.1 Using Ready Mix

Fixed all final markings such as vertical alignment on completed concrete and masonry wall for the required

minimum thickness of plastering as specified on the approved drawing.

Check all embedded items particularly on electrical conduit and make sure it is installed properly and

inspected by Electrical QC prior to plastering to avoid re-work.

Make sure that metal lath and accessories are installed properly in correct position prior to plastering works.

Try to moisten concrete and masonry wall by sprinkling water and keep damp before plastering starts.

Apply the plaster on the prepared surface by spraying it or manually with a plastering trowel at a thickness

of 10 mm in one layer.

Finish the surface with a wooden or steel float as required. Let the product set properly on the surface

before any curing.

If more thickness is required, the application should be done in two layers. The first layer should be

roughened then cured.

Protect the newly applied plaster from sunshine and wind.

The new plaster has to be cured with water for at least three days by spraying.

3.4.2 For Cement: Sand using plasticizer proportional mix

Apply the bonding agent on the prepared concrete and masonry surface.

Apply a cement /sand mix in one coat for thickness from 8 to 12mm for first undercoat.

Apply from 6 to 10mm for second undercoat.

Scratch the undercoat to provide good adhesion with subsequent beds of coats.

Cure all coats before applying succeeding coats by sheeting over or damping periodically according to
weather condition, and allow coats to harden slowly.

Plastered surface should be smooth, flat and plumb.

Finish the surface with a wood float to give an even texture.

Cured the final coat by keeping the surface damp with a fine spray of water.
