General Notes
The valve size shall be designated by the actual body size.
a
b
All valves shall be full ported as defined by the table in B16.34; the use of reduced ported valves is not acceptable unless noted in the Project Specification.
The valve end connections shall be in accordance with the Project Specification.
All valves shall be hydrostatically tested and proven tight at the manufacturer's plant. The test shall be in accordance with ASME B16.34, except that the gas seat (closure) test is not
acceptable in lieu of a hydrostatic test.
The application of the materials listed is solely the dependent on the project specification, system designation, pipe class, and the governing codes.

All shutoff valves located below grade shall be provided with a post-type position indicator.
Gear operators shall be supplied for all manually operated valves NPS 4 and larger and on smaller valves when the lever pull of the valve is greater than 20 Kg at the maximum
operating torque requirement.
If the Project Specification requires that the valves are to be listed by UL or FM and the system design pressure is equal to or less than 175 psig, the industry accepted rating of 175
WWP (non schock water working pressure) can be used for the required valves. Valves furnished at this rating must be certified and stamped with the UL and/or FM identification.
All shutoff valves located below grade shall be provided with a post-type position indicator. Underground gate and globe valves shall be a non- rising stem valve as required by the
project conditions.
All hydrants shall be of the high-pressure type as manufactured by Darling, Kennedy, or equal as acceptable to the Consulting Engineers, and shall have pressure ratings suitable for
the design conditions listed in the Project Specification.
Unless otherwise indicated in the Project Specification, all threads for fire hose valves, fire hose fittings connections, and other fire fighting equipment connections shall be National
Hose Thread conforming to the requirements covered under the latest edition of the NFPA standard for fire hose connecitons (No. 1963).
This material whether forged or cast is not acceptable for ASME Section III pressure retaining components.
The "end connection" for all butterfly valves shall be a "lug" configuration. In project specifc applications, flanged butterfly valves shall be used. The project specifcation will identify
those applications.
Butterfly valves, as listed in this document, are considered to be butterfly valves with eccentric disks, renewable seats and bi-directional shutoff. This configuration is generally known as
a "High Performance" butterfly valve.
The maximum temperature rating of the valve is dependent of the design characteristics of the "soft" seat materials included in the valve. The maximum temperature rating of this VDT
does not apply for these materials and therefore the valve(s) with this material. The maximum temperature shall be governed by the valve vendor warranty for the specific material.
In general, the ball valves shall be in accordance with applicable requirements of API-608 (Metal Ball Valves, Flanged and Buttwelding Ends), MSS SP 110 (Ball Valves Threaded,
Socket-Welding, Solder Joint, Grooved and Flared Ends) and SP-072 (Ball Valves with Flanged or Butt-Welding Ends for General Service).
When specified by the Project Specificaiton, an AWWA butterfly valve design and pressure rating shall be in accordance with the current requirements of AWWA C 504. The valves
classified as "commercial grade" are not acceptable for this specification.
