TRANSIT MODE

Type Operating Modes of Transportation

Private Transportation
Operated by the owner to their own (motorcycle, car, etc.)
Paratransit
Transportation service was prepared by operator and the fellow
group that need in the contract to travel (cost paid in
accordance price). Paratransit do not have a fixed route and
schedule such as taxi, dial-a-ride; jitney (angkot).
Transit, Mass Transit
Have a schedule and fixed route that used by everyone who
pay the ticket (bus, Train/Commuter, rapid transit).

Characteristic of Traffic Modes

1. Row.

Strip of land where the transit vehicle is operated.

2. Technology

Transit modes technology refers to mechanics behaviour of vehicle and road

3. Type of Service

Row Category
Category C : Surface roads with mixed traffic
Category B : as physically using centralized such as curbs,
barrier of traffic, such as grade crossing to other
vehicle and pedestrian
Category A : full control Row without grade crossing or
access for other vehicle/human, such as private
grade centralized or exclusive such as tunnel,
aerial.

Characteristic of transit Mode Technology

Supporters : contact between vehicle and road surface where the transfer
of heavy vehicle: The most common type is rubber wheels on concrete,
asphalt, and steel wheel on steel rails. Another type of support is a vehicle
body in the water
Guidance : a tool for vehicle lateral directions. Highway vehicle driven by
driver and lateral stabilization provided by wheel adhesion. Rails vehicle
guided by flans and conical and surfaces of wheel
Engine Driving : diesel (internal combustion engine/ICE), A method to
transfer the traktif power
Controls : a tool to control all vehicle trips in the system, in the form of
manual-visual, visual-signaling, full automatic

Type of Service
a. The route type and service travel :

Short travel, which is low-speed service in small area with a high density

such as CBD areas, college, airport.

City transit, that serving in city.
Regional transit, consists of a high-speed route with multiple stops (such
as fast bus).

b. Classification of dismissal schedule or type of operation :

Local service for all unit transit stop at all stops or passenger desired
place.

Transit service such as skip-stop and Ronal service.

Express service for all vehicles on the route stops at dismissal with a
wide space

c. Classification of Operating Time:

Regular or services throughout the day is a transit operating during the

most network in a day.

Commuter or service at peak hours which refers to route that are
operated at peak hours. Usually the radial from suburban, focused on the
CBD, designed for trip work.
Special service or irregular such as sport event, exhibitions and
emergency condition.

Vehicle Movement
Discrete flow system

System where the current object/vehicle that through in one point that
cut off

Continue flow system

Continuous flow of object through any given point along the path

Average Speed

Difference in location vector divided by the time difference

V12 = S2-S1/ (t2-t1)

Acceleration

The rate of change in time, a = dv/dt

The force that working on a transport vehicle

Force to overcome the innate resistance of movement
Force that provide acceleration and deceleration
Briefing
Change the elevation

Transit System Component

Physical component of transit system are grouped:
Vehicle
Road, ROW (a lane, exclusive lanes, above or below
grade with full control)
Terminal (End station for transit lane):
transfer station (serving more than one lane and
provide facilities for passenger to move at multimode
transfer station (serving multiple modes)
Control system (vehicle detection, communication,
signaling equipment, etc.)
Travel Route (route(bus); line (rail))
Transit network is a collection of all routes/lanes in a
city

Transit Modes Operating System

Operating system, service and characteristic
Operating system includes activities such as schedule,
services, supervision, ticket collecting and maintenance
Services include systems that seems actual and potential
Characteristic system are classified into 4 category, are:
Performance
Los
Impact
Cost

Performance of system (a set of element form)

Service frequency (number of arrivals/hour)

Operating Speed
Reliability (% on time vehicles or before the time
specified)
Security
Lane capacity (the amount of maximum space or
people where the vehicle can carry as long as trips
per lane per hour
Productive capacity (result of the operation speed
and lane capacity)
Productivity (the quantity of output per unit
resource; vehicle-km, space-km per unit of work,
Operating cost, ROW width)
Utilization (ratio of output from input)
10

Level of Service

All measurements for all characteristic related services

users
Factor to compare with LOS :
Form elements that affect the use of (operating
speed, LOAD FACTOR, TIME, security, etc.)
Service quality (quality elements for service and
suitability, comfortable)
price

Impact

Effect on the surrounding or service are being serviced

Cost : Investment cost, operational
