HEATEC 2-PASS HELICAL COIL

HEATER WITH FINNED TUBE

CONVECTION SECTION

WHEN 2-PASS BEATS 3-PASS

When you purchase a heater your choice may be between a
2-pass design and a 3-pass design. Both have their merits.
A 2-pass heater
has a single
coil. Burner
gases make two
passes through
the heater.
They rst pass
through the inside of the coil,
then around its
outside.
A 3-pass heater has 2
coils, a smaller coil inside
a larger coil, separated by
a small gap. Burner gases
make three passes through
the heater. They rst pass
through the inside of the
smaller coil, then between
the two coils. And nally
they pass around the outside of the larger coil.

Heatecs 3-pass heaters are noteworthy for their compact size

and high thermal efciency. If limited space is an over-riding
consideration, the 3-pass heater is your best choice. Otherwise, a 2-pass heater, such as the one pictured above, is a
better choice.
Heatec built this heater for a well-known manufacturer of
roong materials. Its input is one million Btu/hour. Except
for its expansion tank, the heater is fully assembled on a
single skid.
Its convection section with nned tubing increases thermal
efciency by 3 percent. Actually, the convection section can
be designed to increase thermal efciency up to 8 percent,
depending mainly on operating temperatures.

Heatec builds both types of heaters and offers the following

points to help you decide between them.

Such 2-pass heaters with a convection section can equal or

surpass the thermal efciency of our 3-pass heaters. And, unlike a typical 3-pass heater, the 2-pass heater has easy access
to the coil for maintenance.
Moreover, its single helical coil is much longer than those
in comparable 3-pass heaters. So it has much more coil
surface area exposed to radiant energy of the burner ame.
Consequently, it has a much lower radiant ux rate than the
shorter coil of a 3-pass heater. Lower radiant ux rate results
in lower lm temperature, longer life for thermal uid, and
longer coil life.
Heatec builds both 2 and 3-pass heaters and recommends the
one best suited for the particular application.

E X T R A O R D I N A R Y !
This thermal uid heater has extraordinary features.
Features that increase performance. Features that increase its life. Features that reduce maintenance.
Its extraordinary convection section with nned tubing
increases thermal efciency 3%. Actually, convection
sections can be designed to increase thermal efciency
up to 8%, depending mainly on operating temperatures.

And there are numerous other extraordinary features.

See the photo below to learn what they are and what
they do.
These are no-frill features that you will want to consider on your next heater. Each one provides a benet to
justify its cost. Pick those appropriate for your application and decide its value to you.
