1,781 earthquakes.
3 exceeded a magnitude 6.0.
Continued unusual movement, global unrest, and more.
Kick back folks, and relax. This is your week end report!
Hey folks! I hope you have had an awesome week! I want to
thank you for tuning in for the earthquake report! For the record,
today is September the 18th, 2016. This video will speak of
earthquake data spanning from September the 10th through
September the 6th.
It was on this day in 1984, when a magnitude 6.4 struck Turkey.
Three people were killed, 38 injured, and 75,000 houses were
destroyed or damaged in the Olur-Senkaya area.
This is whats happening:
Police appeal for missing teen on Facebook and receive a
hilarious response from her. A police force was left publicly
humiliated when their appeal for a missing girl on Facebook went
a bit wrong.
The Queensland Police had posted a photograph of the young
woman on their Facebook page with the caption: "Can you help
us find a 17-year-old girl missing from Carindale?" and a link to an
appeal on their website.
It received plenty of sad and shocked reactions on the social
media site, but got far more attention once it had received a
certain comment.
Erian Thompson explained she was just sitting in her bedroom
and it was all a misunderstanding.
She wrote, "Guys I'm fine. I'm not missing. This is an overreaction
to a fight I had with my sister. I'm legit just sitting in my bedroom."
Well, that's a bit embarrassing.
To be fair to the police, they were only doing their jobs and
making sure the girl was safe.
A stunt goes horribly wrong as a man blows up his garden
after lighting a mound of rubbish soaked in gasoline. A man
caused a massive explosion in his garden after throwing a lit
candle onto a mound of rubbish soaked in a highly-flammable
substances.
Footage posted online shows the man lighting the candle and
giving a nervous glance back towards the woman filming him as
he approaches the rubbish.
He hesitates and takes a few steps back before tossing the lit
candles onto the giant mound of crumpled paper.
What followed next was likely the biggest shock of his life as the
mound exploded with a huge "boom!" leaving his pristine garden
looking like an inferno.
The frightened woman lets out a scream and ducks back into the
house for safety as the glow of the flames are visible against the
wall.
When she camera shows the hellish aftermath the garden is
covered with piles of flaming paper and several trees are alight.
She tells the man to douse the fire with water and they discuss
whether they should call emergency officials for help.
Outside of the Ring of Fire, the most notable within this category
was a 5.9 that hit Tanzania on Saturday, September the 10th.
According to the Associated Press, the country's president, John
Magufuli, said that many had been killed by the quake that struck
at 3:27 p.m. local time.
Magufuli said he was "shocked by reports of the earthquake that
caused the death of many people, injury to others and destruction
of property," according to the press release issued by the
president's office. Regional police commander Augustine Olomi
said most of the deaths occurred in brick structures in the town of
Bukoba. The quake, which was considered shallow at a depth of
25 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and was
reportedly felt as far away as western Kenya, parts of Uganda
and in Kigali, Rwanda.
We registered 77 magnitude 4 earthquakes. This was also a
decrease when compared to the previous week. In fact, a 22%
difference. Seismic swarms were limited to the usual locations
which include Indonesia with 10 earthquakes, Japan with 6, and
Alaska with 6 as well.
The remaining earthquakes struck, for the most part, locations
here in the States.
Well start with Hawaii, which registered 79 earthquakes, with the
strongest being a 3.4 on September the 15th, a 3.3 on the 12th,
and a 3.2 on the 11th. Swarm activity was centered around the
Volcano, which clocked in 24 earthquakes and Honaunau,
Napoopoo, which registered 34.
Alaska clocked in 341 earthquakes. The strongest to strike was a
magnitude 4.4 that hit Amatignak on Thursday, September the
15th.
Washington registered 57. The most intense being a 2.1 that hit
Erlands Point. The average magnitude for all earthquakes to
strike Washington was a .9.
Oregons earthquake activity, once again, remained largely
unchanged when compared to the previous weeks data. We
experienced 17 quakes in total. The strongest registered was a
3.4 in Port Orford on Sunday, September 11th, and a 3.0 in
Lakeview on Saturday.
California experienced 693 earthquakes. This boils down to
roughly 90 being experienced per day.
The most powerful recorded was a 3.5 in Piedmont and a 3.3 in
Crescent City. Swarm activity was limited to Mammoth Lakes with
93, The Guysers with 99, and Cobb with 65.
Nevada registered 196 earthquakes last week. The strongest
experienced was a 3.0 that struck Spanish Springs. Swarm
activity was limited to the usual locations.
Idaho registered 16 all week. This was a 75% increase when
compared to the previous week. The most intense to strike was a
2.1 in Victor. Swarm activity was primarily center in Victor, which
clocked in 7 and Dubois with 4.
Montana experienced 83 earthquakes. The most intense
registered was 3.3 that struck Whitehall. On an interesting note, I
remember a time, as I am sure followers of this channel do too,
when it was rare to experience earthquakes of this magnitude
near Yellowstone. As of the past few months though, this has
become the norm. Thats very, very interesting.
