backward?
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
I.

Research Design
This study used a descriptive design employing the qualitative
approach. Case study is the strategy used to describe and investigate
the outlook and level of competency in Science and Technology for Sta.
Rosa Junior High School. It also includes the teaching skills of the
teachers and improvement of the study skills of the students as
Science and Technology has been introduced to Sta. Rosa Junior High
School.
This study uses in-depth interview, overt participant observation,
and focus group on the participants at Sta. Rosa Junior High School.

II.

Research Environment
The study is focused in Sta. Rosa Junior High School located in
Olango, Cebu. Currently, the school is composed of 1,500 students and
45 teachers. The school has 24 classrooms to host 10 grade 7
sections, 8 grade 8 sections, and 6 grade 10 sections.

III.

Research Participants
The researchers utilized the non-probability sampling, specifically
the purposive sampling method, in selecting the 11 Key informants.
They have been selected according to the following criteria: (1) must
have undergone ICT or computer training; (2) must be part of the
school faculty for at least a year or more; (3) must express consent to
undergo the interview and; (4) or be a student that is under the
advisory of either Technology or Science Teacher of the school.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

Rationale of the Study

The new modern era welcomes the integration of technology into the
educational environment. Opening doors to broader horizons, this strategy
has made science lessons easier to comprehend for the youth and the
general public. It is for this reason that this study is being conducted.
It is important to integrate technology into our curriculum since
nowadays our technology is gradually changing and we should not let our
educational system to be left behind instead, we should make use of it
through using technology to produce highly competitive individuals who are
able to lead the next generation with their highly substantial knowledge. The
integration of technology into science teaching enables the students to
comprehend the lessons easily and interactively, thus enabling them to
connect ideas, enhance their creativity and imagination, produce more from
what they have learned, and make intellectual comments and opinions about
their lesson.
As of now, the Philippine government is devising ways to raise the
countrys competence in the field of Science and Technology. However,
despite the effort exerted by the various departments and organizations,
there is still a glaring difference between the facilities and quality of
education provided by public and private schools. This difference can be seen
most especially in the rural areas. Currently, most of the public schools are
still utilizing the traditional methods, which according to recent research,
lack of certain key point to fully spark the educational enthusiasm of both
teacher and student.
In order to measure the effectiveness or quality of education in the
rural areas, the researchers have chosen to evaluate the Science and
Technology competence of Sta. Rosa Junior High School. This will only
include investigation on student competence based on the quality of their
environment and available equipments. This also includes the evaluation of
the teachers techniques and strategies and how effective they are.
By the results of the study, awareness and possible aid to the studies
school might be given in the near future. Through this, the countrys
competence and overall performance in the world market may be enhanced.
Better teaching strategies may also be identified and utilized to promote
quality education in the field of science and technology.
