I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the 60-minute period, the pupils are expected to:
a. demonstrate that the Earth takes one year/12 months/ 365 days to make a
complete revolution around the Sun (366 every fourth/leap year) following its
own orbit.
b. perform activities to verify how the Earth revolves around the sun; and
c. participate in all group works wisely and effectively.
II.
Subject Matter Earths Revolution
a. Unit: Earth
b. Content: How the Earth revolves around the Sun
c. Concept:
It takes one year/12 months/ 365 days for the Earth to make a complete
revolution around the sun (366 every 4 years) following its own orbit.
A leap year is a year that has one extra day in it. It occurs roughly every four
years and has 366 days.
d. Science Processes: observing, comparing
e. Materials: paper hearts, maze board, globe, flashlight, calendars, video presentation,

Science Song
There is Science in everyday life, in everyday life
We observe, we describe, we record, we classify
There is Science in everyday life, in everyday life
Yes, teacher!
It is rotation, teacher.
one revolution.
2. Presentation
(The teacher will show a picture of
the sun)
What can you say about this
picture?
Good!
(The teacher will show a picture of
the Earth)
How about this picture?
properly.
Leaders, please get your materials
here.
Group 1- Rotation
Materials:
-1 sock with a string tied on it.
Instructions:
1. Imagine that the sock is the Earth.
2. Hold the end of the string (sock tied on
the other end).
3. Spin the string upward.
4. Observe how it rotates. Answer the
following questions:
*In what direction does the sock (Earth)
revolve? What was shape of its
revolution?
Group 2- Revolution
Materials:
-paper-mat with orbit (an orbit is drawn on the
paper-mat)
Instructions:
1. Place the paper-mat on the floor.
2. One pupil will stand on the center of the
paper-mat. Another pupil will walk along the
orbit.
3. Imagine that the pupil at the center is the
Sun and the other pupil walking along the orbit
is the Earth. Answer the following questions:
*What movement of the Earth is shown? In
what direction does it move in the orbit?
Group 3- Axis
Materials:
-cut-out arrows
-cut-out Earth pictures
-cut-out Sun picture
Instructions:
1. Think carefully on how the Earth is
arranged on the board.
2. Paste the arrows to show the direction of
the Earths movement around the Sun.
3. Take a deeper look on what you have
formed. Answer the following questions:
*How were the different pictures of the
Earth arranged? In what direction does it
move around the Sun?
Group 4- Orbit
-cartolina
-crayons
1. Draw the Sun on the center of the cartolina.
2. Draw an orbit around the Sun.
3. Draw the Earth on the orbit.
4. Make sure to draw it according to its proper
places. Answer the following questions:
*What is shown on your drawing? What
movements of the Earth can be seen on your
work?
After doing the activities
Leaders of each group kindly
present your work and observations
here in front.
Very good, IV-1! You all did a great
job.
Give yourselves a Fireworks Clap.
4. Discussion
Now we all know that the Earth
rotates while revolving around the
sun like for Group 2-Revolution,
youve seen how the Earth moves
on its axis and on its orbit around
the sun.
For Group 1-Rotation, they were
able to show that the Earth revolves
in an elliptical or oval shape
Very good! We have seen how the
Earth rotates on its axis while it
revolves around the sun.
(The teacher will flash the word
elliptical and its meaning on the
powerpoint presentation)
For Group 3-Axis, they now knew
that the Earth revolves in counterclockwise direction. Right?
And for the Group 4-Orbit, they
