Learning Outcomes Of Assignment:


1. Demonstrate an understanding of the approaches and techniques of teaching writing
skills in the primary ESL classroom.
2. Use appropriate evaluation strategies in assessing writing in the primary ESL
classroom.
3. Select, design and evaluate materials for teaching writing in the primary ESL
classroom.
4. Plan, teach and subsequently evaluate the implementation of lessons to develop
writing skills based on the current Malaysian
English syllabus for primary schools.
5. Design remedial and enrichment activities for developing writing skills in the primary
ESL classroom.
This project is for evaluating the following learning outcomes (1, 2, 3 and 4)

Objectives of Coursework:
1. Utilise their understanding of approaches and techniques of teaching writing in
designing teaching aid and writing tasks/ activities.
2. Select materials and design writing tasks / activities.
3. Plan and teach writing lessons according to the KSSR English language syllabus.
4. Write a personal reflection on all the tasks carried out based on feedback given

Coursework 1 (30%)
Designing / creating one teaching aid to be used for writing activities (Individual)
This involves students:
1. Designing and creating a suitable teaching aid that can be used as the basis for controlled
as well as guided writing activities. The teaching aid can be in various forms such as digital
material, posters, picture cards, recorded materials, video, objects, models, language games
and charts like flip chart.
2. Designing one controlled or one guided writing activity for a primary ESL classroom based
on the teaching aid created. Students have to decide on the age group as well as the
proficiency level of the pupils.
3. Providing detail description of the teaching aid as well as explanation and rationals /
justifications for the teaching aid and the writing activity chosen.
Coursework 2 (30%)
Lesson Planning (Individual)
1. Design a 60-minute lesson plan to teach a writing lesson in a KSSR class. The lesson
must
reflect either the genre, process or the product approach.
2. Design all the necessary teaching and learning resources.
3. Use the writing activity that has been created in Task 1.

Coursework 3 (25%)
Simulated teaching (Group work)
1. Implement the lesson that you have planned in Task 2 in a classroom setting.
2. Students should focus their teaching on three consecutive stages of the lesson.

Coursework 4 (15%)
Written Reflection (Individual)
1. Write a 1200-word reflection on the whole process of designing teaching aids and writing
activities (Task 1) lesson planning ( Task 2) and simulated teaching (Task 3). In the
reflection, discuss the strengths and weaknesses and the changes you would like to make
and anything new you have learned from the experience. Support your reflection with
relevant references.
