From the Coordinators Desk

In these trying times of economic instability throughout the world, we
all must maintain a keen focus on the importance of key fabrication
and manufacturing technologies.
The American Welding Society stands as one with the Indian
Institute of Welding in its emphasis on promulgating the importance
of welding in both emerging and highly industrialized markets. The
Indian Institute of Welding invites a specialist from the American
Welding Society to deliver a series of technical lectures every year on
any important / critical subject in different cities in India.
We had already had four such series of lectures in the past. The Indian
Institute of Welding this year have invited Mr. Walter J Sperko, ViceChairman of ASME Section IX to deliver the fifth series of technical
lectures on "The Secrets to Using ASME Section IX. The lectures
are being held this year from August 30 - September 7, 2010 at Pune,
Mumbai, Surat, Baroda, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
ASME Section IX relates to the qualification of welders, welding
operators and the procedures employed in welding. As such, this is an
active document subject to constant review, interpretation and
improvement to recognize new developments and research data. This
lecture on "The Secrets to Using ASME Section IX will deal with
different aspects and trends besides, understanding how to read
Section IX correctly and how to apply it when qualifying welders and
welding procedures and when writing welding procedures.
Those who have read Section IX and struggled with it will also be
delighted by the simple rules that need to be followed to master it.
While this basic presentation is on welding technology, common
issues will be examined.
The speaker shall also try to review on the latest changes in the
Specification which are expected to be carried out in 2010. I hope you
will be benefited with this lecture.
