Aims
The purpose of this project is to allow you to use your technical and creative skills on
a project of your choosing. You can work alone or in a small group. You should create
a proposal, carry out research, define your audience and then produce a final product
before evaluating your project.
Tasks/Notes
Stage 1: Proposal
You should prepare a proposal for your project. It should contain: the format that you are
going to work in (Print, TV, Film etc), a working title, what the genre of your product is, what
the content of your product will be, what style or approach you will use, who the audience will
be and what length it will be (time, pages etc).
Stage 2: Pre-production
You need to carry out all the appropriate pre-production tasks that you product requires. You
should break the project down in to smaller jobs. If you are working as a group you should
then divide this work up and be clear about who is doing what. You should plan your product.
This might mean producing storyboards or flat plans, going to potential locations, organising
actors and transport, getting permissions and clearances, thinking about health and safety
and producing a risk assessment.
Stage 3: Production
Once you have planned your product it is time to start creating it. This will include different
tasks depending on the product you are making will might include filming, photographing,
writing or producing layouts. Your planning stage should have made it clear what is required.
You should produce a product which matches your plans.
Stage 4: Reviewing your work
Once you have completed your final piece you must evaluate the project you have produced.
You will compare your finished product to your plans. You will assess how appropriate it is for
your audience; evaluate the technical and aesthetic qualities, the content and style. You will
evaluate all stages of the production process from research and planning to post-production.
You will self evaluate and also take in to consideration the comments and feedback from
others.
