Type of Valve
operation- hand or elce. Act.
Maximum torque for nonrising stem type valves
Maximum trust in case of rising stem type valves.
Type of service (i.e. ON/OFF or Regulating)
No of turns of stem for full travel
Stem dia.
Operating time in secs. (in case of electrically operated vales)
Gear operator mounting details.
Example
Data Given
Valve size & type
Maximum operating torque ; Nm
Maximum thrust, kgs
No. of turns for full travel
Operating time, secs.
Duty - ON/OFF
Selection of an Actuator
Find out the required input torque at gear box input end.
For model S5, the factor is 3.85 & the rated output ( for actuator coupling) is 750
NM.
Thus the input torque =
750
3.85
=
194.8 NM
Thus select an Actuator giving 200 NM output torque
The coupling between the Gear Box & an electric actuator is always type E.
7650
0.7
10929 NM.
b) Thus from Data- Sheet, select, model WG75-S25, giving 12500 NM Max. torque.
=109.28 NM.
For WG75-S25,
Input torque = 10929
48
=227.7 NM
For WG75-S40,
Input torque = 13909
77
=180.6 NM
In all cases, select Actuator having an output more than the required input torque
Speed of actuator
Assuming 45 secs (*) is the operating time ( open to close operation ) specified,
The quarter turn, manual override (MOR) units are 900 movement, worm gear units.
These gear operators are used along with pneumatically- operated control valves &
can be clutched/declutched into the systemData required for selection
1) Valve size
2) Max. Operating torque for valve.
3) Max. Operating torque for the pneumatic actuator when compresoed air supply fails.
Selection
As the MOR units are put into service when the service lines ( elec. supply to solenoid
valves or compressed air to pneumatic actuators) fail, the selection of the MOR units is done
as followsMax. torque of MOR unit
= Max. torque of valve + torque required to overcome/ move the
actuator in failed condition
* After the selection of MOR unit for torque requirement, verify the following Mounting details at valve & actuator ends.
Coupling compatibility at valve stem & the actuator-end.
