ASSESSMENTS:
In order to measure students proficiency in the language, assessments will be given frequently. These will be in
various formats designed to assess students knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and culture, as well as their oral
and written communication skills.
As per the student handbook, students are expected to be in attendance for all examinations and tests unless
the student is ill, or the absence falls in the excused category of the schools attendance policy. Students missing
tests for other reasons will receive a failing grade.
A student missing only the day of the exam or test is expected to make up the exam or test on the day they
return. A student missing a day or more immediately before the test will be given one day to review. However, if a
student misses only a portion of the day prior to a test, that student will be expected to take the examination at the
regularly scheduled time.
It is the students responsibility to make arrangements with the instructor for making up tests and quizzes.
Make-up tests and quizzes must be taken after school or at 4th hour lunch if the student does not have a class at
that time.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Homework and other assignments will be given often in Spanish class as opportunities to practice newly learned
material. This is a necessary element for the retention of material. Assignments may be graded on completion
and/or accuracy.
It is of utmost importance for the student to complete each assignment and turn it in on time. To be considered
on time, assignments must be turned in immediately upon entering the class by placing them in the appropriate
homework tray. Late assignments will NOT be accepted! Do not underestimate the importance of doing all
assignments and turning them in. It is crucial to work hard on assignments from day one!
The student is responsible to acquire any missed assignments due to an excused absence. Make-up work will
be available in the trays marked with the appropriate class and day of the week. If a student is absent on the day an

assignment is due, they must turn the assignment in on the day they return. The student will receive a zero for all
make-up assignments until they are completed.
Bellwork Calentamiento
Students will have a daily bellwork assignment called Calentamiento, which is Spanish for warm-up. This
daily assignment is expected to be completed within the first few minutes of class. Bellwork is intended to stimulate
an atmosphere of learning in the classroom. The content of the bellwork may draw from previously learned material
for review purposes, or it may be designed to lay the foundation for new material.
Calentamiento will be an ongoing assignment that will be submitted on Google Classroom. Any number of
bellwork assignments may be graded at random and will be checked for completion and/or accuracy. The bellwork
assignment for each day will be posted on the side board.
E-MAIL & TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS:
A great deal technological tools will be used regularly in this class, so it is very important for students to bring
their computers to class every day.

RULES AND PROCEDURES:
Classroom Rules:
1) Be on time for class.
2) Come prepared for class and ready to learn.
3) Do not bring any food, drinks, or gum into the classroom.
4) Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
5) Respect yourself, your peers, and the instructor at all times.
Classroom Procedures & Expectations:

When you come to class, quietly enter the room, turn in your homework, find your seat, and immediately begin
working on your bellwork (calentamiento).

Visit your locker and use the restroom before class! Once class has started, you will not be allowed to leave the
classroom, except in extreme cases! This will only be allowed twice per semester and will be solely at the
instructors discretion. This is a privilege, NOT a right, and it can be revoked at any time!

Bring your restroom pass to class every day. In the rare case that you may be allowed to leave the classroom,
you must present your restroom pass to be validated. Without your own restroom pass, your request will be
denied. You may not use someone elses pass.

Remain in your seat during active teaching. Things like sharpening your pencil or disposing of trash can be done
before or after class. If there is an urgent need, raise your hand to ask for permission. Also, refrain from
throwing things into the trash can.

If you have a question or a comment, please raise your hand and wait for the instructor to call on you.

You are expected to actively participate during all lectures, discussions, and class activities. This often includes
asking questions, helping your classmates, and taking notes, so please be prepared with your computer and/or
plenty of paper and pencils.

Anything you turn in to me on paper should be done in pencil, unless otherwise noted. Please make an effort to
erase any mistakes and rewrite clearly, as opposed to scribbling things out, drawing arrows, etc.

Remain seated during all tests and quizzes. If you have a question, please raise your hand and the instructor
will come to you. Also, you might want to bring extra pencils on test or quiz days, as you will not be allowed to
leave your desk to go sharpen them.

At the end of each class, you are to remain in your seat and attentive until you are dismissed. You should not
begin packing up your belongings until instructed to do so. Please note that the bell does not dismiss you! The
instructor dismisses you!

According to school policy, cell phones are allowed in class ONLY IF the student is expressly authorized to do so
by the classroom teacher for educational purposes. Cell phones and electronic devices that are used without
authorization or are used for any purpose other than what is specified by the instructor will be confiscated.
