EMMANUEL, ST. ANDREWS, & ST. MATTHEWS EPISCOPAL CHURCHES

On May 14, 2016, approximately 80 golfers gathered at Canasawacta Country for the
second annual Greater Norwich Golfers Hall of Fame golf tournament.
One of the driving forces of this tournament is to make a donation each year to a local
charitable or not-for profit organization, said Dennis Mirabito, tournament chairperson. The Hall
of Fame honors local golfers for their talent, but we wanted to do something special for the
community too. This year, because of great participation and generous sponsors, the Hall of
Fame was able to raise $ 1,000.00 for the Food Closet. Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, which
operates out of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich, provides approximately $75,000.00
worth of groceries per year to local families. Working closely with the Central New York Food
Bank in Syracuse, local volunteers spend every dollar donated on food for local families in need.
The Hall of Fame had a committee of six tournament volunteers including Mirabito and
Patti Giltner, Steve Crawford, Jim Wysor, Sam Scafidi and Doug Wilson.
On Saturday, August 6th, Judge Revoir squared off against Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike and
representatives from the Norwich City Police Department and the Chenango County Sheriffs
Department in a slider eating contest to commemorate the grand re-opening of the Norwich Arbys.
Arbys pledged to donate $500 to a charity of the winners choice, and while Judge Revoir was
victorious, the contestants unanimously agreed that Our Daily Bread Food Pantry was a worthy cause.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry

Fall will be arriving soon. School is opening for a new year. The year is going by very quickly. Our
Daily Bread Food Pantry needs your support at all times of the year. Soups, canned fruits and vegetables,
cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, and spaghetti sauce are items the pantry can always use. We now
have more refrigeration space, so if anyone has extra produce from their garden, it would be a wonderful
addition to the meals. Thanks for your generosity to our community.

2016 Summer Events

Water Safari Trip
Chenango District Water Safari Trip
was held on July 13, 2016. We had
approximately 72 attendees this
year. The bus left St. Andrews at 8
a.m. Wednesday morning, people
also had an option to car pool or
drive themselves. Lunch was
included in the ticket price, pizza,
chips, ice cream & a beverage was
provided to all that attended.
On July 11th and 12th, people from the Episcopal churches of
the Chenango District gathered at St. Andrew's Church in
New Berlin to clear brush, trim trees and paint the fence that
surrounds the front and sides of the parish's lovely cemetery.
Fortunately, most of the work was in the shade. Pizza was
delivered and a pleasant day spent with fellow Episcopalians.

District Worship and Pig Roast

On Sunday, August 7 the Chenango District
held their annual combined church service at St.
Andrews followed by a pig roast. Each participant
brought a delicious dish to pass. The event was well
attended and everyone had a great time.

Emmanuel and First Baptist Parishioners were invited to

participate in a Union Service at UCC on Sunday, August
21. It also served as a "kick off" for their Vacation Bible
School program. Their concern and hospitality is greatly
appreciated. Emmanuel was well represented as we
enjoyed sharing worship and fellowship with our
neighbors.

Emmanuel Parish Life Tag Sale Update

Thank you for supporting our August 2016 tag sale. A huge thank you to everyone for donating items and/or
volunteering. Also, thank you to our Emmanuel staff for your help. We couldnt have done it without each and every
one of you. All of our volunteers helped make our sale a success. Total sales: $1,163.00.
Our Parish Life members, along with our extra helpers, put in many hours. We had a great time working
together, setting up shop, sorting items, lifting, pushing and carrying boxes, decision making which was ongoing,
getting to know each other, eating cookies and lunch together, sharing laughs, and cleaning up in record time.
Special thanks go out to our luau girl and her helpers. Also, to our volunteer who replaced the fan we sold
that wasnt for sale, and to the Ontario for providing our lunch.
We are in the process of giving our Parish Hall a new fresh and inviting look. We want everyone to feel
welcome when they enter our building.
