A Birds Eye View

The BeCA website is the place to check
out for the latest news and remarkable
photographs. Type bellvista.com.au into
your preferred browser and then click on
the News & Events tab.
The A Birds Eye View post is under
the News & Events tab and has several
photographs well worth seeing.
The photo above is one of those and
shows a remarkable birds eye view of

our estates and gives us a sneak preview of

what is just to the south of us.
On the website you will see a photo
which shows a close up of the new bridge
at the southern end of the Bellvista Blvd
under construction.
Other photos provide a glimpse of just
how close the new shops will be when constructed. They will be to the west of the
new intersection in the photo just to the

south of the bridge.

Though the photos were taken several
months ago, they do provide us with a
great view of what is just around the
corner.
Thanks Stockland for the photos. We
wait with great anticipation for the new
road to be available for everyone to use,
hopefully prior to Christmas 2016, weather permitting.

Sunshine Coast Traffic

Issues.
During August, representatives of several
local Community Organizations met to
discuss Transport issues across the Sunshine Coast and, in particular, the proposed East-West Corridor Road. BeCA,
Sunshine Coast Ratepayers South and
Golden Beach Progress Association were
represented.
It was decided to enlist the support of
Jason Hunt and arrange a meeting with
either the Minister for Roads or one of his
advisors to press the case for at least to
begin planning the proposed East-West
Corridor Road.
It is envisaged that initially this road will
connect with Pelican Waters Blvd and
Bellvista Blvd and eventually provide a second corridor road to allow motorists to
drive from Pelican Waters through to the
Bruce Hwy via the Bells Creek Arterial Rd.
This led to the group to consider the overall planning of Transport and Transportation needs of the Sunshine Coast.
There are several large projects which
are due to come online over the next 10
years or so which will have a marked effect
on the Sunshine Coast and traffic conditions.
Some members of the community may
not fully appreciate the benefits and grandeur that the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital will bring to the region. The
influx of professionals and other workers
to man this huge complex will have a deep
impact on the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
The extension of the runway at the Sunshine Coast Airport will open doors hardly
envisaged today by the everyday person in
the street. It will rocket this part of Australia onto a worldwide stage for tourism,
exports and imports. It will provide a second backup to an already stretched Brisbane Airport and bring a range of new industries and employment to the region.

To house the workers of the new and exciting developments there will be communities such as Caloundra South and
Palmview with homes to accommodate a
further 75,000 people.
In just a couple of years we will see the
Commonwealth Games come to South
East Queensland and it is expected the
Sunshine Coast will play a role in hosting
this world wide event.
As the population arrives, then so too
does the need for new schools, shopping
complexes, associated services and a coordinated and carefully staged plan for
road construction and the provision of
public transport services.
Already Caloundra Road is experiencing
huge difficulties in accommodating traffic
during peak times. Works are in the pipeline to improve traffic concerns at the
Nicklin Way/Caloundra Rd roundabout but
these appear to be piecemeal and more
like band aid treatment rather than an
effective solution to stem the flow of
blood from a wide gaping wound.
It is time to look at the bigger picture. It is time for Council to take some
leadership and host a Transport and
Transportation Forum which can formulate a broad based across the region strategic plan to address traffic and transportation issues into the next decade.
Rather than a quick fix here and another there, a co-ordinated approach is required. There is a need for a much improved Public Transport system, a rail
corridor onto the Coast itself and to explore a range of options for the future
needs of the community.
The Community Organizations will press
our Council Representatives to conduct a
full public forum covering all facets of a
transport and transportation plan for the
Sunshine Coast, a plan which will best
serve the needs of our rapidly growing
community. It is expected the forum

should be open to everyone and deliver

an across the region perspective of traffic
and transportation concerns.
A range of strategies was then discussed to bring this suggestion to the
attention of our local Councillors. With
Mayor Jamieson attending the BeCA November Public Meeting, BeCA will suggest he speak to this issue.
The local press will also be involved and
support sought from other community
organizations across the region.

Motorists, Please Take Care

The many duck families are on the move

again and unfortunately are not up to
speed on the rules to safely cross the
road!
BeCA seeks your help as a local motorist to be 30 seconds or so late to your
destination and just slow down and be
alert while driving and watch out for families of ducks crossing our roads.
Just take some care please. BeCAs
Facebook page has some passionate
pleas from residents asking motorists to
slow down, be aware of the many duck
families and to drive carefully.
So here we go, please slow down!
BeCA is again contacting SCC to put up
more signage.

Our thanks to Mark McArdle MP, Member for Caloundra for facilitating the printing of BeCAs Newsletter.

Strange Behaviour By Motorists and Pedestrians!

Have you noticed cars stopping near
your place at night, or strange behaviour
of someone walking by your home with
their head buried in their phone?
Most likely the cause is the new game
called Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go is
alive and kicking here in Bellvista and
Bells Reach!
BeCA called on some of the younger
residents for an explanation so read on
to find out all about Pokemon Go and
how it affects where we live ..
What is Pokemon GO?
Pokmon Go is a free-to-play, locationbased augmented reality game developed for iOS and Android phones and
released in July 2016. In the game, players use a mobile devices GPS capability
to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokmon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the
same real-world location as the player.
The game has been widely applauded for
getting youth to be more active, as the
game requires players to walk in order
to collect Pokemon, hatch eggs and progress through the game.
So you may have noticed more teenagers or families out and about in our local
area, or walking along your street glued
to their mobile phone. (And even some
very strange driver behaviour, slowing
down in the street for no obvious reason
or sitting in the car at night outside your
house!).
You can catch Pokemon all over the
estate, but this is usually a quick activity
and players dont need to hang around
long for. On the other hand, there are
Pokestops and Pokegyms, both requiring
more time for players to perform tasks.
Heres a quick guide to the hotspots for
Pokemon GO activity in Bells Reach and
Bellvista.

Pokestops:

Pokemon Gyms:

These stops are places players can pick up

free supplies to help in the game. They refresh about every 5 minutes. Special Lure
modules can be placed in the stops to
lure Pokemon to the location, so players may pass by very briefly to collect supplies, or hang out in the vicinity for 30
minutes while their lure is active. If they
are accessible by car, often people will
slow down at these points to quickly claim
items, then drive straight off.
Our local Pokestops are located at (also
see map):
Lomond Crescent, at the bus stop
(Canavan Gracie Recreational Park sign)
Lomond Crescent/Rawson Street, behind
Bellvista Tavern (Caloundra Recreational
Trail Map)
OReilly Drive, opposite Cougal Circuit
(OReilly Drive sign on Rock Wall)
Corner of Amber Drive & Copper Crescent (Bells Reach Fitness Park Squid
(playground)

Gyms are places where players can train

their Pokemon or battle other players.
Players will tend to hang out in the vicinity of a gym for longer times trying to
claim it for their team colour (Red, Blue
or Yellow). Our local gyms are located at:
Gairdner Street, walkway opposite Nebo
Street corner (Bellvista Translocation
Plaque)
Blue Park/Quinn Park, Bells Reach Drive
(Hand Print Wall in the covered BBQ area)
So if you see people hanging around
these places, do not worry, they are not
up to mischief they are just playing
Pokemon GO.

Lock It Or Lose It!

It is surprising to see the amount of property left out in the open or even in unlocked cars during the day or overnight.
We constantly hear reports regarding
things going missing from front yards or
unlocked vehicles.
Regretfully there are some youngsters
roaming our streets well after dark, even
into the early hours of the morning.
Residents are reminded to keep temptation at bay and dont leave items in front
yards or vehicles unlocked.
If something does go missing or you notice some suspicious behaviour contact the
Police immediately or use the PoliceLink
Service on 131444.

Dogs Off Leash

Sunshine Council ByLaws says: All

dogs must be kept on a leash when in
public areas, unless in a designated offleash area.
Following this concern BeCA has posted
this notice on its website and in this newsletter to remind dog owners of their responsibilities.
BeCA is aware that dogs provide friendship for many residents as well as added
security for others on their own.
BeCA has now approached Council to
have ByLaws officers regularly check all
parks in Bellvista and Bells Reach for dog
owners who are contravening this law.
BeCA will also take up the matter with
our Councillor and again request Council
investigate a designated off leash area
here at Bellvista or Bells Reach.
BeCA will also request signage be installed at both Active and Blue Parks informing pet owners that dogs should remain on a leash in all parks.
With todays smaller house blocks,
parks and playgrounds become a popular
place for owners to exercise their dogs.
Please ensure these dogs are always on a
leash!
