1. Introduction
This document provides simple, concise steps and examples to enable the configuration
of a backup and restore application with the Data Domain Restore (DDR). This tech note
is a companion to Oracle Secure Backup documentation and assumes that Oracle Secure
Backup (OSB) is already installed. Oracle Secure Backup is tape only.

The following tutorial and documents are useful for installing and configuring OSB. It is
recommended that some time is spent on the OSB 10.1 and 10.2 tutorials.

3.3. Restrictions
Windows drivers for tape devices and medium changer has to be disabled
prior to installing Oracle Secure Backup for Windows.
Please review Oracle Secure Backup tutorials and documentation for
additional installation information.
Please consult with Oracle on Oracle bug 6673933 the general problem is
backups with non-default block size can complete with warning messages and
restores will fail.

5. VTL configurations
5.1. Windows Example
The following examples assume that the information from Section 4 has been
gathered and noted.

4. Select Attachments and provide the host name of the media server and raw
device information for the medium changer as shown in example Figure 2

3. Select Attachments and provide the host name of the media server and raw
device information for the tape drive as shown in example Figure 4 Tape

4. Attempt a Ping to verify that the device is accessible from Oracle Secure
Backup.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 of section 5.2 to configure additional tape drives.

5.4.
Before a backup can be executed on Windows, the user domain needs to be updated for
Oracle Secure Backup. Follow the steps below to configure the user domain:
1. Select Configure Users and edit a user.
2. See Figure 7 Example of updating Windows Domains.

5. Select item to restore and click on Add. See Figure 10 for an example of
Restore From Catalog.
6. If the alternate path is not specified, the restore item will be restored to the
original path.

7. Replication
Use the Data Domain Restorer Operating System User Guide for guidance on replication
for VTL media pools. The generic steps are described below.
1. Select a virtual cartridge pool for replication.
2. Create the replication relationship between two Data Domain systems.
3. Replicate tape cartridge pools (such as Default) to the destination Data
Domain system.
4. Configure the VTL drives and robot on Destination Data Domain system.
5. Discover & configure the destination VTL within Oracle Secure Backup.
6. Verify the replicated media can be discovered using a Oracle Secure Backup
inventory operation.
