specialtyofelectronicinformation,togetherwithmyeverlastingdabblinginartisticactivities,has
enabledmetosavoramuchmorecolorfulandfulfillinglifethanmostofmypeers.Therationalityas
embodiedincomputerscienceandtheemotionalityasincorporatedinarthavemadeitpossibleforme
todevelopacharacterofpluralism,endowingmewithahealthypersonality.Theseelementshavealso
contributedtoanotheraspectinmypersonalitythecouragetoseekthefulfillmentofmyobjectivesin
anindefatigablemanner.HavingwonaseriesofspecialhonorssuchasOutstandingUniversityGraduate
ofBeijingMunicipality(onlyfourstudentsinauniversityareeligibleforthehonor),OutstandingStudent
LeaderofBeijingUniversityofScienceandEngineeringandseveralmajorachievementsinthecourseof
myemployment,Icraveforanopportunitytotranscendmyexistingconditions,anopportunitywhich
mayallowmetofulfillevengreatervaluesofmylifeinaccordancewiththeprogressofsocietyasa
whole.

Ifeelproudforhavingchosenelectronicsandinformationtechnologyasasubjectofmylifelongpursuit.
In1997,withoutstandingscholasticperformanceatthecompetitiveentranceexamination,Iwas
matriculatedintoBeijingUniversityofScienceandEngineering,oneofthebestpolytechnicuniversities
inChina,andbecameanambitiousandaspiringstudentoftheDepartmentofCommunicationsand
Control.Fromthattimeon,Ibecameinextricablyconnectedwithmyspecialty.Iimmersedmyselfinthe
mostdiligentlearningofeverycourserelatedtomyspecialtyandderivedimmensepleasurefromevery
programmingexperiment.Equippedwithasensitivitytocogentabstractthinkingrepresentedby
mathematicsandlogicalanalysis,Istudiedwithmuchinterestandfascinationthosetheorieswhich
seemedmonotonousandtedioustomostofmyclassmates.However,asmystudyofthecoursesinmy
specialtyconsumedalmostallofenergy,Ifailedtogivesufficientattentiontothoseoutdatedand
doctrinairecoursessuchasThePrincipleofMarxistPhilosophy.Thisresultedinmyrelativelylowscores
inthosecourses,whichseriouslyaffectedmyGPA.Nevertheless,asastudentinengineering,I
consciouslyattemptedtoimprovemyexperimentalskillsandtocultivatemyproblemsolvingaptitudes.
TheprojectthatIdesignedfortheElectronicDesigningCoursewasputoncampuswideexhibition.My
GPAforthecoresubjectscanbelistedamongtop8%rankingofmygrade.Ireceivedscholarshipsfor
threeconsecutiveyearsandservedasclasspresident,extensivelyinvolvedinextracurricularactivities.

Inthespringof2001,whenIattemptedatmygraduationthesis,IfocusedmyprojectonInformation
HidingTechnology,inparticular,ontheresearchandimprovementofdigitalwatermarking.Iwas
motivatedbytheconsiderationthatnetworksecurityisthemostsusceptiblepartofthecurrent
network,posingasthegreatestobstacletothefurtherdevelopmentofnetwork.Bysynthesizingthe
researchingfindingsofmypredecessors,Iproposednewperspectivesonthepositioningofimbedded
watermarksinmyproject,whichworkedouttheconventionalincompatibilitybetweenthestabilityand
theinvisibilityofDCTbasedwatermark.Onaccountoftherigorousnessandcreativityofmyprojectand
itsmajorrealisticsignificanceincopyrightprotectionofdigitalmedia,forgeryidentification,secret
communicationofnetworkinformation,anddigitalmarkhiding,IwasawardedclassAratingforthe
project,anhonortowhichonlyfouroutof60studentsinmydepartmentwereentitledthatyear.This
accoladebroughtmyundergraduatestudiestoasuccessfulcompletionandcreatedafreshstarting

pointtoscalenewheights.

Havingaperiodofpreciousworkexperienceisoneofmygreatestassets.Upongraduation,Ibecamean
employeewiththeNo.1ServiceCenterofBeijingTelecomandTelegraphBureau.Ihavebeena
memberinaconsecutiveseriesofimportantprojectsthatincludethelatestroundoftheInternet
volumeexpansionofBeijingnetwork,newdesigningofconnectiontopologyofservers,andthe
formulationofnewsolutionsdesignedtoenhancethesecurityandstabilityofallnetworks.Iwillalso
participateinthemergingprojectbetweenChinaTelecomandChinaNetease.Byapplyingmy
knowledgetothoseimportantprojects,Ihavedevelopedacompletepictureofthesophisticated
networkstructureinBeijinganditsexquisitenetworksetup.ItisoutofthisworkexperiencethatI
generatedtheideaofimprovingtheexistingconditionsofnetworksecurityandthelevelof
management.Networkimpliescomputerandinreturnnetworkconstitutesanessentialpartof
computerscienceandtechnology.Myworkexperienceisvaluableinthatithasenabledmeto
accumulateampleempiricalwealthandhasprovidedanimportantgroundworkforundertakinghigher
levelresearchincomputerscience.

Iameversogratefultomyparentsforhavingendowedmewithversatiletalentsandapairofkeeneyes
withwhichtoseekthejoysoflife.Iamproficientinplayingquiteafewmusicalinstrumentslikeguitar,
piano,theFrenchhorn.Asdeputychairmanofouruniversitysarttroupe,Ihavedirectedits
participationintwoallChinauniversityartfestivalswherewereceivedseveralawards,bringinghonor
tomyuniversityononehand.Inallthoseprocesses,Ihavealsocultivatedmyoptimisticviewoflife,
enhancedmyawarenessofteamwork,andimprovedmyleadershipandorganizationalcompetence.I
believethatthosequalitiesarealsoindispensableformyundertakingfutureresearchasascientist.

Asayoungmaninthisageofrapidlydevelopinginformationtechnology,Iamgladthatthisagehas
createdpreciousopportunitiesforus.YetIalsofeeltremendouspressureandchallengesposedbythis
rapidlychangingworld.AlthoughoverthepastfewdecadesChinahasscoredconsiderable
achievementsincomputertechnology,thereisstillanalarminggapbetweenChinaanditswestern
counterpartsintermsofsophisticatedcomputertechnology.Thescarcityoffirstratecomputertalents
withcomprehensiveprofessionalqualitiesistherootcauseforthegapthatChinafaces.Motivatedby
thehopeofshorteningthisgap,Ifilethisapplicationtoyourmostesteemeduniversitytoseekaquality
education.Apartfromastrongfacultyandanurturingacademicenvironment,youruniversitycanoffer
awidevarietyofresearchprogramswhichIbelievewillhelpmedevelopsuperbhandsonabilitiesand
problemsolvingskills.Byimmersingmyselfinmyfuturedegreeprogram,Iwillacquirethemost
updatedcomputertechnology.Inaddition,asanOriental,Iwillbeabletoperfectmycharacterby
assimilatingwhatisusefuloutofmyexperienceofAmericanculture,scienceandtechnology.

Inthefaceofpotentialchallenges,Iamfullofdeterminationandoptimism.Myexperienceof
undertakingfurthereducationatyouruniversitywillbecomethemostexcitingandpreciouspartofmy
lifelongpursuitforpersonalexcellenceandfulfillment.
