Rationale
Financeandfinancialdecisionsareeverywhereinourdailylives,whetheritbefromapersonalorbusiness
perspective.Fundamentaltoanunderstandingofbasicfinancialknowledgeistheabilitytoweightherelevantcosts
andbenefitsofanydecisionusingvaluationprinciplesandconcepts.Withinthisframework,anunderstandingof
financialmarketsandthetoolsavailabletoproperlyanalyseandassessfinancialinformationisneededsoasto
enablethefinancialconsumerandmanagertoapplythosetoolstomakeproperlyinformeddecisionsamongst
loans,investments,andprojects.

Synopsis
Thiscoursewillintroducestudentstofinancialmarkets,thetoolsandconceptsofbasicfinance,comprehensionof
basicfinancialstatements,timevalueofmoney,valuationofsharesandbonds,riskandreturnconsiderations,
capitalbudgetingandthecostofcapital.ItformsthefirstofthreecoursesintheFinancestreamandassuch,
shouldbeseenasintroducingmanyofthekeyconceptsandfoundationsuponwhichtheothertwocoursesare
built.Manyofthefinanceconceptsstudiedinthiscoursehaveaglobalaswellasdomesticapplication.Inaddition,
thiscoursewilladoptadecisionmakingfocusinthecontextoffinancewiththetoolsandtechniquestaughtinthis
courseenablingbusinessestomaximisethewealthofowners.

1.Attendancerequirements:
Online:IfyouareaninternationalstudentinAustralia,youareadvisedtoattendallclassesatyourcampus.
Forallotherstudents,therearenoattendancerequirementsforthiscourse.However,itisthestudents'
responsibilitytostudyallmaterialprovidedtothemorrequiredtobeaccessedbythemtomaximisetheir
chanceofmeetingtheobjectivesofthecourseandtobeinformedofcourserelatedactivitiesand
administration.
Oncampus:Itisthestudents'responsibilitytoattendandparticipateappropriatelyinallactivities(suchas
