PERFORMANCES AND AFTER-SCHOOL REHEARSALS
Students will earn a grade for attendance and participation in all scheduled after-school
performances and rehearsals. These performances and rehearsals will be a part of the students
current nine-week grade. There will be approximately two to three evening performances each semester,
and several rehearsals each month, which will be scheduled during the Activity Period after school.
During the second semester eighth grade Chorus students and members of the cast of the Chorus musical
will have additional after-school rehearsals and performances. Parents will be notified in advance of all
performances and rehearsals (see pages 3-4 for rehearsals and performances which have been scheduled).
If a student is unable to participate in an after-school performance or rehearsal, as soon as
the student is notified of the event the parent/guardian should submit a note explaining
the absence IN ADVANCE to the chorus director.
In addition to the Brickell Academy performances, students will have the opportunity to audition for
select citywide, district and state-wide events. Students will not be eligible for either of these
honor groups unless they are enrolled in Chorus for the full year. Students selected for these
groups will require additional after-school rehearsal and performance time.
All-City Chorus is for selected sixth and seventh grade students (in-school auditions will be
held in January)
All-District Chorus is for selected seventh and eighth grade students (District auditions will be
held November 5)
All-State Chorus is for selected eighth grade students (State auditions, adjudicated by
recorded audition, will be held in early February)

To complete the Chorus uniform, in addition to the students own black pants or skirt/shoes/socks, all
students will wear:

ATTENDANCE
Please remember that all absences, whether excused or not, detract from the overall effectiveness of a
class or an after-school rehearsal or performance. Absences require the entire chorus to repeat work for
the benefit of the absentee. Good attendance is necessary for students and the entire group to maintain a
quality level of musicianship. Excused absences, as defined by the Brickell Academy Student
Handbook, include personal illness, severe illness or death in the family, and the observance of
a religious holiday.
